If you live near the border, is it worth driving your car down there to save $? How much money could one stand to save. Reason being, my clutch is going out. It would be $500 at least in labor here in the States. I've read the cost of living in Mexico is about 40-50% less than in the States..
Logging in...
Does anyone go to Mexico to get their car worked on?

While I don't know how far you live from the border, just seems like a lot of work to go outside the country to save some money get your clutch replaced. At the very least have you looked on CL for mechanics providing side work at discounted rate?
Regardless of country, I'd also be cautious of safety. In case the vehicle were to break down or you're stranded in an unfamiliar location.
While I've worked as a mechanic, I'd be a little skeptical of that option, unless you're truly desperate. Otherwise my answer is more inclined to find a trusted mechanic from a referral in regards to quote and shop around, or ask about side work/discounted rate. But that's really stretching it, IMO."I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Mechanic/shop time and also autobody/collision repair rates are variable by region. Going "across the border" doesn't have to mean Mexico or Canada. You might find a $10/hr or more swing in the hourly labor charge or more just by having a vehicle worked on in a rural versus urban area, across state lines, etc. It's going to depend on the car, and dealer versus independent shop, of course, but labor rates do vary.History will judge the complicit.
