    My luxury items include

    1. 4500 sqft house on a ski lake with an indoor theater room (adding a 100k pool/outdoor kitchen later on next year, then a dock which may cost 25k..then you add jet skis and a pontoon boat).

    2. Two new cars with a total cost of 80k

    3. Lawn Service

    4. Bark Box for the dog

I use my smartphone and internet for my work. Same goes for my desktop and laptop. So they're not luxury for me. Hhhhmm.. So maybe food? I like splurging once in a while but nothing outrageous.

Maybe I'm just feeling sappy right now, but I have to tell you there are times when pretty much everything I have seems like incredibly unlikely luxury. A blessing. A grace. A bounty. Yeah, a luxury.

Hot water at the tap? Amazing. A snug and sturdy home in a peaceful, secure place? Ah, so good.

A car? Extra clothing? Books? Music of any kind with the flip of a switch? Unbelievable good fortune. Internet connection to any part of the world? Never having to chop wood, stoke a fire, and carry ashes? Wool carpet underfoot? Silk scarf around my neck? I mean-- it is almost endless.

Basically all I had to do to get these luxuries was to be born in the right time and place. I just do the hard work of choosing which of the luxuries I want. There is a glut of luxurious comfort, amusement, convenience and goodness.

I find myself much more willing to pay for luxuries like travel and entertainment more than clothing, getting my nails done or cosmetics. I think experiences in life are worth spending money on, so a weekend away, vacation or even a date night are things I am always willing to spend some money on.

Having just returned from a 2-week trip, I would have to again say travel. I work to be able to afford my time away from work . We had 2 wonderful weeks of quality time with each other (it was just DW and I), got to visit with a bunch of friends, see new things, eat new places, and just overall accumulate new experiences and new memories. It is worth every penny.

                  * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
                  * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
                  * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

this is beautiful and a good reminder to appreciate all that we have.

my dad was telling me the other day how hard it was to do laundry in the flat he grew up in, in a very poor community. There was a ringer washing machine in the basement for all to share. It took forever and was hard work, no dryer. They would hang clothes inside to dry but it couldn't be in the bedrooms because the clothes would freeze in there. Their rooms were so cold, they often had to sleep on the LR floor.

He's only 69, that wasn't that long ago. We are all very fortunate. I look at the conveniences we have now and am blown away when I really think about it. In the 70s, I brought in an article for show and tell that said one day an entire book would fit on this small thing called a micro chip. Computers were bigger than people for the most part then, I never believed it would happen.

Most recently for me it is my Calphalon Signature Non Stick Cookware.
It is dishwasher safe, can be put in the oven up to 500 degrees, food wipes clean with a paper towel (it doesn't stick for real!) and you can use metal utensils with it. I love, love, love it! I bought a 10 piece set, a dutch oven (which is awesome--I wish I bought one of these years ago) and 2 omelet pans. Cooking with this cookware is a dream.

                        Luxuries I currently pay for:
                        • Books. I give myself a generous allowance.
                        • Eating Out. Multiple times each week.
                        • Of late, the occasional B&B weekend. Twice since I started my new job a year ago.

Luxury that I WILL pay for as soon as I get some outstanding debt paid off: Having someone in to clean

Something that I consider a necessity that others here rank as a luxury: Any kind of household repair. From experience, I know that I am far more likely to screw things up and have to pay more in the end than I do by just calling in a pro in the first place.

Once a week I will eat out. And by eat out I don't mean to go to a restaurant such as Claim Jumper, Marie Calendars, Cheesecake Factory, or Bob Evans. I'm talking about take out such as KFC, Pizza hut, or Panda Chinese food. In addition, that one take home meal a week is stretched out to make 2 more left over meals after I add my own sides from home such as veggies/fruits and starches. Having 3 portions of one take home meal isn't so much about saving money or lack of having money, it is more a fact of the portions being rather large and adding more food which I already have at home. In addition, I enjoy the convenience once a week of not having to cook. If I had to make 3 meals out of 1 meal out of necessity, that would be whole a different story.
