We are sending a child to college (not ours, to make a long story short-our kids college is paid for already) that we off and on helped raise (a cousin of mines child). If we didn't she would never get to go as her family are not able, and have severe health and mental issues....
Anyway....husband lost his job and we are trying to get this young lady thru paying what her scholarships did not cover. We have some huge medical bills, and twice we have gotten behind on them as he was back in the hospital and during that time, he had no income coming in.
Now, we have been denied a student loan because these bills are showing (6 different companies) 7 late payments....
I thought I had read or heard somewhere that late medical bills are not to be considered when applying for financial aid for student loans and housing (mortgage).
Am I dreaming??
Yes this young lady is working. She is struggling, so we don't want her to work too much. She reads at a 9th grade level (parents are low iq and neither can read or even drive). So, please don't suggest she go get a job--if she works anymore than what she has now, her grades will suffer.
