  • Charging more for used items than new ones

I was just looking for a CD on Amazon. It is $15.88 brand new. I have no problem buying used so I checked the used prices. Somebody had one for $17.98 + $3.99 shipping. Why would anyone buy that, and what was the seller thinking when he listed it? People are nuts.

Could it be an edition that's slightly different than the new ones now selling that makes it more valuable?

Perhaps Amazon dropped the price some time after the seller listed the used copy. Perhaps the seller is hoping eventually the new copies will sell out and his will be the only copy left. Perhaps the seller is just hoping there are some dumb buyers out there.

This is not only true for Amazon. I have seen the used prices on some things, like coffee pots, at Salvation Army & Goodwill be higher than I see on the shelf at Walmart, Target.......all the time.

That's possible. Hadn't thought of that.

Yep. I used to buy a lot more things at Goodwill but over the years, they've raised their prices to where it no longer pays much of the time. Even if it is a little cheaper than new, it makes more sense to spend a couple dollars more and get the item new.
