While everyone is out buying their giant flat screens, smart phones, toys, and other stuff, don't ignore the very real savings on gift cards. A lot of places discount their gift cards this time of year and you can use that to save money on purchases all year long.
For example, Target is selling Target cards for 10% off tomorrow from 6am til noon online and in the store ($300 limit). As long as I can get on the site, I'll grab that deal.
Target also has a deal on iTunes cards: buy one get one 30% off (so basically 15% off your total purchase).
Lots of restaurants around here do a 20% bonus: buy $100 worth of cards and get a $20 card free. We've done that before for our own use during the year.
I don't know if they're doing it this year but in the past, Marriott has done something similar and we've taken advantage of that also.
So be on the lookout for deals like these. They're great because they are just flat out savings. You don't have to buy specific items that you may not really need. And you don't need to fight Black Friday crowds. You can shop anytime, buy the cards, and return at your leisure to use the cards.
