We try to buy last years model - usually the floor model of a product. On top of that, my credit card gives me 6% cash back at grocery stores, so I buy a gift card there and then use that to buy the item.

We've been doing this for awhile and haven't had any issues. It's great to get a new washer and dryer 40% off because there is a scratch on the one side!

Do your homework first, shop around and visit comparison sites. Don't buy when desperate or urgently need something.

I usually roam around sites which will be having a discount and then compare prices on each sites so that I will have broader way to choose. Also I always check if the products are in a good condition before I pay.

Basically, we buy almost nothing new, including appliances. We did have to break down and buy a new chest freezer. All the ones on CL were so nasty, otherwise we would have just gone that route. We spent sometime online researching prices, went to a few appliance stores. Finally found one at Lowe's that was a good quality name brand that was the size we wanted. It was 20% off and we were able to get the sales person to give us another 15% discount. My advice is always try to get the salesperson to knock off more and to try get scratch/dent floor models.

Get a piece of paper and list the prices you have seen then compare which one is the cheapest and have a good quality.

You can save even one small thing also. I feel proud when I purchase anything with saving money also. I focus on Merit-Based Rewards while making a large purchase to save my money.
