  • High School graduation gift

The amount I give varies. I have a large family and it seems that we always have college, high school and grade school graduations in waves. One year none and the next year three. It can get expensive to say the least. Obviously, I have to be practical and decide what I can realistically afford to give each graduate. Then, what I give to a grade school graduate will be less than high school which is less than college. As for post-graduates, I don't even go there! Grade school (family only), I generally give $50. Many people feel this is too high. High school grads receive between $75 to $100 (family members). I give about $50. to other HS grads, such as friends children if invited to a party) and $100 to $125 for college grads (again for family). Ultimately, you have to do the best you can with what you have. I read one post where the writer mentioned that he gave $35. or $50. and it was never acknowledged. That is absolutely ignorant and I would never give that kid another gift again! Depending on the circumstances, I would also make it known to the parent(s) who should have taught them better social skills in the first place. I don't care what amount you give or receive for any occassion ~ it should always be acknowledged with a thank you note.
