  • Target gift cards 6% off face value

I've posted before about cardpool.com and giftcards.com. Just in case anyone is interested, giftcards.com currently has Target cards for 6% off face value. I just bought a few myself but figured I'd share the info. The usual discount is 4%. I don't know how long the 6% will last so if you can use them, grab them now.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

I just looked and they still have them at 6%. Some are back to 4% but a lot are still at 6%.

Is there really much advantage to this over using a Target Red-Card and getting a 5% discount? Not that I shop there much, but I use the Red Card there when I do (and I remember to take it along). Yes, I know the security issue (and thankfully I didn't go to Target during the data loss). And yes, if you get ... say 1% back using a credit card to buy the gift cards, the discount increases by 1%. Still, is this really worth it?

In the case of Target specifically, maybe not, but I don't have a Red Card and don't want to get another account opened. This way, I can still get the 5% (4% + CC reward) or today 7% (6% + CC reward).

From these gift card sites, though, you can get all kinds of discounts. Last week I bought cards for Dick's Sporting Goods for 21% off because I need a new pair of running shoes. I've gotten Home Depot cards for 10% off when doing home repairs. A lot of restaurants are 10% off. It's an easy way to save money on stuff we are buying anyway.

I understand DS. Its just a matter of preference. For me, the chance of losing track of the gift card doesn't overcome the minimal beneift at most at Target. As for other places - I am not much of a shopper, and I find when I am trying to cash out CC sign up bonuses, usually gift cards give the best bang for the buck (err.. bonus points), so I certainly don't need even more gift cards.

In fact yesterday I used over $100 in WalMart gift cards to get a new pair of glasses. I needed to spend money to get reimbursed my remaining FSA monies for 2013 (use or lose), so I will get a spare pair of glasses and effectively cash out those gift cards. This still leaves me with a stack of gift cards for various restaurants and Home Depot (and more for Wal Mart ) (I have a box I use especially to store them all so I don't lose track of them! ).

I generally only buy cards either for places that we go regularly, like Target and WalMart, or places that I specifically know I need to get something, like Dick's. And I usually keep a Home Depot card in my wallet because I never know when something will need fixing in the house and I want to be ready.

Disneysteve, do you know if we can use those discounted Target cards to buy Disney gift cards AND if the 5% discount would apply if we paid with our redcard? We use Disney giftcards to pay for food and tickets there so gettig the additional 4-6 % ( on top of the 5% we get for purchasing at Target with redcard )off would be great.
