  • DH had an appointment today

Our insurance carrier changed at the beginning of the year, and DH has been getting set up with new doctors. We went to his new nephrologist today. His GFR (kidney function) as of his last test in December was 20. It was at 24 last July, so it's gone down. They drew blood to check it again today.

He has been referred to the kidney center, and there are classes he'll need to take on treatment options next week at the location in our neighborhood, so he'll call tomorrow and hopefully he can get into those so we don't have to wait till April. The doctor was very optimistic about transplantation. First he has to take the classes, then he can get evaluated and cleared to recieve a transplant. Once he is cleared then I and my BIL can be evaluated as potential donors. He said the whole process will take at minimum about six months. My daughter will have moved in by then, but at least my parents only live six hours away, and I am sure my mom will come help out if one of us can donate.

DH is seeming very motivated now. I think he is realizing he would feel better with a new kidney. His PCP increased his antidepressant dosage a couple weeks ago too, and I believe it's helping. He really likes the new nephrologist. He spent a lot of time with us, and was welcoming of questions and concerns.

Oh! And some really good news, I found a new job closer to home! Initially I was only going to be working on Sundays, but a couple weeks after starting another employee put in their notice, so next month I will start working Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The new job is a 15 minute walk from my apartment, pays pretty well, and I really like the environment so far. I will keep working at the airport two days a week as well. Saturday was my last day at the spa I had been working at. Unfortunately I just didn't really care for it. Too many things got changed after I finished training, and had I known I would never have accepted the position, plus the commute was really far. The insurance the offered isn't currently ACA compliant either, and thus is pretty useless to me. So just two jobs now. Neither has benefits, but at least we are still getting insurance through DH's work. And the owner at the new job is planning to start paying for continuing ed classes in the near future, which could save us hundreds per year. Since the new job is in my neighborhood I also stopped renting the massage studio, since my handful of current clients will be able to see me at my new workplace. So that will decrease the demands on my time, and I wasn't making much more than I was paying for the place anyway. It will be really nice working close to home when my daughter moves in. Although I do really love working at the airport, the commute is considerable. Working there less often will save me 30-40 a month on train fare too.
