  • Do you still use postage stamps?

I read that postage stamps are going to be going up in price again soon, but as I thought about it more, I can't remember the last time I actually used one. Do you still use postage stamps and if so, what for? Have you take steps to save money on postage?

I do use postage stamps. I still love getting and writing letters with the penpals I've had for decades, I have a groovy MailArt theme happening with one of them, plus I use them for mailing those 3" x 5" cards for sweepstakes. I like to write to my stepmother who is not onlineWe bought some at the end of last year... I thought the stamp prices were to rise on the 2nd of January.
Oh yes, and I use them for getting autographs from entertainment legends like Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks!

I also mail my car insurance payment. Sure the insurance company NOW takes credit cards, but they wouldn't when I wanted them to fifteen years ago. Sometimes I mail my mortgage payments too so I can use up the envelopes.

But yes, despite all of the above, I will take steps to save $ on postage. I'm going to use PayPal to send cost equivalences to friends for the Amazon gifts they post on their lists for their birthdays and in one case, Christmas. I save on air freight. Plus, one of them's been open about her debt, and I'm sure she'll like the flexibility of the PayPal amount because she doesn't eat books and DVDs. On occasion I'll drive to the next country to mail packages, as it's cheaper to send a parcel "domestic" even when the destination city is closer to Dublin, Ireland than it is to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada...

I still have a package of stamps having mailed a few Christmas cards and continue to mail a few birthday cards to people in other cities that I very much care about.

I use postage stamps for birthday cards to my daughter, son-in-law and 2 granddaughters.
Occasionally, the man who cuts my grass comes and does it while I'm out. When I come home and see that he has been there, I mail him a check the next day.

All together, I probably use less than 10 stamps a year.

Everything else is either automatically drafted from my account or I go online and make the payment there.

I very rarely use stamps. Back in 2007, I bought 100 of the "Forever" stamps.... 6.5 years later, I still have over 40 of them. In the last year, I think I've used perhaps 3 or 4 of them. It's too easy to simply use electronic means for most everything anymore.

Rarely - less than 5 a year. HOWEVER, I'm getting married in a couple of months and received 200 Forever stamps for Christmas. There's no way we'll use that many, even with thank yous, probably won't use more than 80 or so. They'll last a good long while.

I estimate we use about 150 first class stamps a year.
I think most of the stamps are used for Christmas cards, thank-you cards and birthday cards. My genealogy project requires a few stamps, too (requests for information/documents and sharing info and pictures and so on). We use stamps for health ins claims (for the ones we have to file ourselves). Maybe an odd bill or two, but that is rare anymore.
Then, there are post card stamps. I bought a sheet of 50 stamps--one for every state. When I purchased them, they were first class stamps. Now, they are good for post cards. I have a grand niece that I send post cards to--My goal is to send one from every state. She has a little brother, so I send him a post card, too.

We do. Not a lot but we still use them. Not everything is electronic. We mail checks to our lawn guy. We mail donations to some charities. We mail magazine subscriptions and assorted other things. I have a roll of Forever stamps we got recently that I'm sure will last us a year or more.

DD is going to college this fall so I'm sure we'll be doing more mailing, sending her cards and such to brighten her day.

Good point there... I'll be getting married in May, and in preparation of that (and the bump in stamp prices), we bought I think 200 (or more?) forever stamps for announcements, thank you's, etc... Thankfully, she's willing to mostly handle all of that stuff... haha

Wrote a letter yesterday. I think I send 30-40 first class envelopes a year.

Yes, we use stamps. My daughter is applying for an art festival spot. They are asking the application be mailed. I send holiday cards some years and some relatives get birthday cards. It does take awhile to use up twenty stamps though. All bills are paid online in some form or another.

I am helping the bookkeeping for the non-profit org and I just sent out the contribution statements to supporters.
Last Sat I read the news article that the price of stamps (again) would go up, so I hurried to Walgreen and bought some books. I think it went from $.46 to $.49... I am debating if I should go electronics (sending statements through emails) to reduce organization's op costs...

I do. Not a lot, but I do. A book of stamps will last me several months, where a few years ago the same book of stamps might have lasted a month or less.

Well, you know that with the passage of time, technology is constantly enhancing everyday to provide better and accessible solutions to mankind. Similarly, if I just talk about courier postage industry, that days are gone when people use to travel miles for sending their consignments through postage offices. Now if I just talk about my procedure, I usually print online postage stamps from http://www.howtoprintpostage.com whenever I have to send any important shipment. Certainly this latest development is not only beneficial in saving money but also in time too. So in the end I think it is the most appropriate, efficient and cheap way to accomplish your task.
