    Re: Walmart

I agree with Eisor, you need to look where the Wal-Mart is and the people working there. Some of them wouldn't give 2 poops no matter where they worked. I've been to many Wal-Marts and have seen really good service, in the smaller towns, and horrible service which is usually in the bigger, nastier parts of town. I'm not a hater or lover of Wal-Mart, Target shopper here. I also agree with the poster that I have had bad service everywhere from Saks to Wal-Mart, people are people no matter where they are.

I'm a little confused on the whole health care thing. I have friends who are contract workers, they work full time for their contract house and some of their houses don't offer health care or if they do the worker must pay the whole premium, why is Wal-Mart singled out? There are many companies that don't give health care or charge a great deal for it. I also wonder why Sam's Club employees get paid a decent amount? Plus you can buy health care at Sam's, what's the difference in price from the Wal-Mart employee health care vs. the Sam's Club price? I just ask because it's owned by the same company.

Because it was revealed that Wal-Mart has more of it's employees on state Medicaid than any other company nationwide. Therefore, Maryland decided to make large profitable companies (over 10,000 employees) pay their own freight.

I have never shopped at a Walmart, and that works well for me.

Thanks for clearing that up. I often wonder what the big stink was since a lot of people don't have any health care across the country.

The two Wal-Marts that we go to are great. The people are friendly, the aisles aren't crowded. There is always help around when I need something. But the one at Renton that I use to go to was horrible. Crowded aisles, rude workers. Didn't like to go to that one at all.

I live equidistant to two Wal-Mart stores. One I have vowed never to set foot in again and the other I frequent at least twice a week. It all depends on management.

I also live fairly near to a Target store. It is very well kept and I've always had good service.

                Re: Walmart

Wal-mart is not my favorite place to shop because I have had trouble in the past, but my husband feels this is the only place he can buy certain items. Last weekend we bought two half gallons of lactose free milk. It was raining when we went in and as a result we were both pretty damp. So, that's probably why he didn't notice that one of those half gallons had a small hole in the bottom. We purchase the milk, drive home, and discover that the carpeting on the floor of our vehicle is milky. Now, going to Wal-mart isn't some place we just dash to because they are are mile or two away. It is almost a ten mile trip one way. So, I clean the carpeting of the vehicle and then throw his clothes into the washer. I call Wal-Mart to report the problem and was told that since there was really no manager on duty (early Sunday evening) I would have to call back tomorrow. This is of course after I was put on hold for almost 5 minutes. Calling this Wal-mart is a long distance call (yeah, it's cheaper to call Florida than to call 10 miles down the road. So, the following afternoon I wind up making three more calls, speaking to 4 different people and racked up another 15 minutes of being on hold time. I was finally told that we would have to bring the carton and the receipt in before anything would be done. So, two days later when we happen to be on that side of town we do just that. The older lady in customer service was kind, but said that since we wanted more than just a refund we would have to wait on a manager. Yet another wait, but at least it wasn't on the phone racking up long distance charges. I had to fill out a form telling the whole story and requesting reimbursement for the milk, carpeting cleaning, phone charges, and the extra load of laundry. I only asked for $15 for all this trouble. I was told they would call me by noon the very next day and let me know what they had decided. Well, the next day came and went and no message on the machine. The following day came and there was a message but yet again I had to call and was put on hold again for almost 10 minutes. I had to go over exactly what I had written and justify why I thought I should get anything. Finally, the lady said they would leave a $15 gift card at the desk. Personally, this was one very expensive half gallon of milk and just reaffirmed my opinion of Wal-Mart not really caring. I had other bad experiences in the past including paying for things and then getting to the car and the item or items not being in my things and basically told that was too bad. I have a friend who works at the other Wal-Mart in town who has reported that they have taken merchandise back as returns that wasn't even bought there. Something is totally wrong when people who are truly trying to screw Wal-Mart can get away with it, and I only ask to get what I pay for! This other Wal-Mart is even farther from our house or we might go there. Personally, I would prefer not darkening the Wal-Mart doors.

                  Re: Walmart

Overall, I think Walmart is OK. I shop there quite a bit and I do often get frustrated because the isles are so narrow and at times the employees leave piles of things that they are stocking in the isle making it very difficult to get by. Once, when my daughter was only a few months old, she got her finger pinched between the cart and a supportive pillar-thing, (like I have in my basement) that was in the already narrow isle. They just don't leave enough room in between the isles. And, the other shoppers are very rude at the store I go to, but that's not Walmart's fault. I agree that the press does pick on Walmart more than they deserve. Overall, they are a pretty good company- attempting to be family-oriented.

                      Re: Walmart

Ahh, and I'm one that quit going to Walmart when they put in signs in spanish. Yep, people give me a hard time for it, call me a snob but I'm far from it. I just expect a clean environment that caters to the majority of the clientele, not a small minority in my area. MANY of my neighbors are Amish but you don't see the signs in german, that's because the Amish adapt to the world around them, they speak english!

I'm in Ohio, not much more than an hour from the Canadian border, there is no reason not to learn the language and way of life here, we're AMERICA, we speak ENGLISH, and I shop at stores that cater to AMERICANS

Ahhh, just a blue collar person keeping my little corner of the world the way I found it and like it.

Walmart is evil. They perpetuate poverty and trample on free enterprise. I would only shop there if it was a matter of life and death and i had no other options.

I like Wal-Mart. If Wal-Mart has it, we buy it there. Wal-Mart has been good for millions of Americans who have to make their money stretch further. I do have mixed feelings about how they compete, but they are here and at least where I live, they have the cheapest price. We buy their store brand products, Great Value and Equate. So if on the list is Advil, what that really means is buying the Equate brand like Advil. I believe that their store brand is a least as good as name brand and better for some products. Almost all the products I buy there is store brand. The other day I needed some baking soda so I ran up to the local store a mile away and paid .97 for it. I made a point to check Wal-Marts price the next time I was in there and it was .33 for the same product. Thats a big difference. Monday I need to buy some pine bark mulch for my flower beds. I can go to the local nursery and pay a lot more or I can go to Wal-Mart and pay a lot less. The local nursery owner is a fat cat with stores all over the region, why should I feel loyal to pay more to shop there? When I need help in Wal-Mart the employee will stop what they are doing and walk me over to what I am looking for. I believe that is their policy, or at least that is what they do at my Wal-Mart. Don't mean to start a fight, I'm just pointing out the things I like about them and a lot of people must agree with me because you can hardly get in their stores on the weekends. I do however buy my meat at the local store when on sale because they have Iowa Beef Packers meat which I think is better.

You aren't starting a fight, but only giving your opinion which is what the forum is all about. It's great that you have good luck with Wal-Mart. Some of us have not. Maybe it's all in the local management.

My il's are the same way. They just built a Wally world a few blocks from them & they don't go in there because it's a non-english speaking store! They prefer to drive to the one by our house or the one about 5 mi or so away because they get better customer service. My neighbors sister works @ that Wal-mart & they have to have several people there to translate on each shift. She said her sister is sick of being yelled @ because she doesn't speak spanish (despite taking it in hs & college) fluently.

In all we do shop there & I don't mind the stuff being in both languages. I wouldn't mind shopping the little guy persay but there aren't anymore little guys around here unless I drive 30 min or so into the"big city". All the lil guys beyond resturants and bars are basically gone here just big chain stores.

And I agree Wal-mart is usually the cheapest on most everything you use everyday & beyond. Though, I will say their clearence program STINKS! I can find better deals @ k-mart or Target for end of season clearence clothes.

I only go about twice a year and my store seems alright. I am kind of glad we don't have one close by, cause Ialways spend too much money when I go there.
