I've been feeling sluggish in the afternoons and was thinking about trying that 5 hour energy drink. They are $4 a piece, but I think that if I'm less tired and more productive, it will be worth the price. Does anyone drink it and is it worth it?

Is 5 Hour Energy worth the price?

No. All that those are is a coffee cups worth of caffeine and some B vitamins. Definitely not worth $4. You can get generic ones for $1, but even then, you shouldn't need to rely on stimulants to get you through the day. Sleeping longer and some exercise will make you feel a lot better than knocking back 5 hour energies every day.Brian

Not worth it. I mean if I'm out of my routine and out of town, in a not usual situation, caught short on rest, or driving longer than I'm supposed to, then they are very helpful. But when you are at home the best is exercise I would have to agree. However I find the most amazing benefit from just taking regular chewable B12 vitamins. Any generic brand works perfectly well for me. I find that doses between 1000-1500 mcg. Honestly I have found the most amazing boosts from reading those vitamins in the morning! To be honest these have been the only vitamins that I have consciously felt a noticeable difference, they make me feel great!
Best thing too, is you can use any generic brand. Main two things I would recommend, 1000-1500 mcg and chewable. Just bought a 120 count bottle of cvs brand for $7 . I would say one vitamin gives me about half the effect I get from a five hour energy. So do the math and the equivalent amount of vitamins in 4 dollar five hour energy, would cost $240. Either way the 7 dollars is worth the try.

I have taken them on two occasions (though I'll sometimes have a red bull and vodka):
I had the flu, but I had a class to teach. I alternated between red bull and the 5 hour energy drinks to get me through the class. I would never have been able to do this without them.
I went almost two weeks without really sleeping when a friend was sick and I was the caregiver. It was stupid, but the same combination kept me vertical during this time. Eventually, your body makes you sleep, no matter what you put into it.
No. I would not recommend them for anything except an extreme such as my first example.

Don't rely so much on energy drinks. It is healthier if you do exercise, eat, and sleep well. If you do those things, you don't get to be energized for only five hours. You will have the fuel to stay up all day.
All the best!

They have knock-offs at the Dollar Tree. Alternately, you could try energy pills with a similar ingredient list.
Whether or not they are worth the money depends on how much benefit you get from them.
I get afternoon sluggishness if I eat any meat or dairy. I'm not sure why, but when I switched to peanut butter on whole wheat OR brown rice and veggies, I stayed alert all afternoon. Today, I had a "chicken" sandwich with "cheese" from the vending machine. I'm gonna need afternoon coffee...
