US Bank charges a 50 cent fee for a mobile check deposit. Regions Bank is planning to charge $5. Other banks are considering charging fees as well. Banks are nickeling & diming us. Would you continue using mobile check deposits at say 50 cents per transaction. I probably would for the convenience factor even though it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth (lol).

No Way!
I don't foresee our credit union nickeling and diming us for this service.
I suppose I'd have to think about it if all banks and CUs started charging for this service, but I don't really see that happening.
ETA: I have used mobile deposit for years, and plan to keep using it. My experience is that while big banks charge lots of fees for this type of stuff that there is always someone out there not charging fees. I wanted to clarify that I did find remote deposit beneficial and I would view the alternative as to find another financial institution for deposits.Last edited by MonkeyMama; 07-02-2013, 05:38 AM.

I evaluate our options every year or two, and choose the best overall offer. There's nothing wrong with "nickel-and-diming" if the bottom-line is a lower cost for me. That's generally the case when the fees are applied to things that we don't typically do. We do 2-3 remote deposits per year, so $1.50 is probably not going to invalidate the overall package that a specific deposit account offers. $15.00 probably wouldn't either, but it may. It's just a matter of looking at what's offered, doing the math, and then making the best decision. And being ready to revise that decision when circumstances change.
It's not personal; it's only business.

I absolutely love mobile banking as it keeps me from having to use the god-awful deposit image ATMs but if they start charging for the mobile app, I won't hesitate to go back to the ATMs (assuming those remain free). I'm not paying to deposit money into my own account.Steve

You're assuming that they won't start charging a fee for ATM deposits as well.* It either already does or soon will cost banks more to process ATM deposits than remote deposits, so either fees for remote deposits will be consequently short-lived or fees for ATM deposits won't be far behind.

* "They'll never do that!" - Famous last words by many people, in response to the idea that banks will start charging a fee for using a teller, when ATMs were introduced.

If they start charging for all forms of deposits, I guess I'd use whichever form was cheapest.Steve

Why not just go inside the branch once in awhile? I'm not sure about the rest of you, but 2 of the banks I do business with have Saturday morning hours and are located on my "errands circuit" so I don't have to go out of my way to stop off at the branch if I coordinate my errands to coincide with bank hours. And my favorite reason for going inside the branch: You may hear about a promotional CD or other savings offer that isn't advertised on the bank's web site. (You have to ask but I usually do.)
