Single best store for groceries

I think Aldi has made leaps and bounds in the produce and dairy category over the last decade. I have no hesitations buying produce there anymore, and they often even have organic choices. I still find their meat sketchy and prefer to go to our local employee owned, Hy-Vee, for that and specialty items I can't find at Aldi.

Super Wal Mart gets my vote but only once per month do I shop there. I spent $281 there today on groceries, protein bars, bathroom items, underwear. Bll may sound like a lot but to buy the items here and there at other places over next month or so would be more.

This reminds me, on my grocery store choice, it does largely depend on *what* you buy. I think I understood some of the ongoing local perception that this chain is very expensive, when my sister visited from out of town. I took her there because I happened to have a $10-off coupon and thought she would appreciate it. She filled her cart with highly processed foods and specialty items and was horrified by the prices. (I think she mostly shops at Wal Mart, which I didn't think to take her to because is way inconvenient and crowded).Originally posted by JoeP View PostHuge Wegmans fan here! It can become very costly if you cave into the prepared foods! Their meat is also noticeably more expensive than the butcher shop in the next town over.
*sigh* It didn't help her impression that we are "made of money" or whatever. But, lord knows we tend to stick to sales, generics, and less processed foods. The food she chose was crazy expensive in comparison to our usual shopping habits. .Last edited by MonkeyMama; 07-05-2013, 02:03 PM.

That's interesting. I may have to give Aldi a second chance some day. I went there once when they first opened in my area. I was so disgusted by their produce that I left without buying anything at all.Originally posted by riverwed070707 View PostI think Aldi has made leaps and bounds in the produce and dairy category over the last decade. I go to Aldi's all the time. The price difference is so major its crazy. I've never had a problem with their vegetables either. I don't get meat often, so I'm not an expert on that. And since they started carrying almond milk, there are only two things I can't get there (brown rice and diet cola). I've heard of bad Aldi stores, but I have yet to see one (I have gone to maybe a dozen total in four states).
BTW, they have stores not far from Disney World in Orlando, so the next time "you know who"
goes there.... he should check them out. First day there we make sure to go to Aldi's and stock up our timeshare for the week.
Don't torture yourself, thats what I'm here for.

Either Wal Mart or an Asian supermarketOriginally posted by jeffrey View PostIf you could only shop at a single store for food, which store do you think would give you the overall best value for your money? Publix Gets my choice
I am a huge fan of Publix. They have a lot of BOGOs and very good store brand products. I even buy their store brand espresso (and I am a coffee snob). We were loyal to Super Walmart about 8 years ago and then started doing some comparison shopping. Walmart generally has lower prices, but if you shop the sales at another grocery store, you can beat them.
