  • Moving - Address Change

    UGH!

Okay, first thing that comes to mind, all my financial institutions. Check.

Who else do you notify of address changes? Do you tell the credit agencies? I'd rather not have a bunch of junk mail going to my previous address (you wouldn't believe the kind of mail I get for the previous renters, corporate benefits packages, bank statements, etc!)

I know I can also tell the Post Office to forward my mail, but that's more of a temporary solution until I get everything updated, right?

    Thanks guys!

    Banks
    Credit/store cards
    Magazine subscriptions
mailing lists for any clubs, charities, etc. if you actually want to receive that mail.
If there are any stores where you're registered to get flyers/coupons/sales and you want them.

Getting your mail forwarded by the post office is actually the best thing you can do, because then every time you get something with the forward sticker, you'll see that it's something you need to go in and update the info for.

The Post Office will forward your mail for 1 year. Plenty of time to tie up all of your loose ends. Focus on the major stuff first. Credit cards, banks, car insurance, cell phone, etc. Change the rest at your leisure over the course of the next few months.

Another thing to keep in mind is that, once you change the address on your credit or debit card, if any biller has your billing address saved, you will need to tell them to update it. This is especially important if you have monthly payments that you pay automatically with a card.

This might be a good time to get on the 'do not contact' list unless you like/use all that junk mail. Adding to your 'notify' list - employer, university or college attended, utilities billing department since there can be a 'disconnect' between service and outsourced billing office and any loyalty cards you use.

Good idea - currently I only have one reoccurring bill that my CC pays.

Changed all my banks, insurances, post office (it's nice because you can tell them when you want it to go into effect)
