Re: If you had a choice which city would you move to ?

i want to move to raleigh, nc.. it is close to myrtle beach and easier to travel to fla. for vacations... they have 3 malls close to the triangle... lots of educational things to do, great restaurants and wonderful golf courses... living is a lil higher there, but, so much more to do for free... museums, parks, etc...

may retire in Virginia/NC area. I guess for now CT is ok, but real estate is very expensive here, and as i said, winters make me hibernate. i like a town that's large enough to have some cultural activites, perhaps a small college, but no so large that iti's lost its rural charm.

there's a fun website i've mentioned here before with a quiz to help you find the best spot for you. it's called www.findyourspot.com
Seattle had a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in February 2001. Just a little FYI from a Seattleite.

guess seattle is off limits for me, along with entire west coast. i'm a fraidy cat when it comes to earthquakes and tornados. too unpredictable and potentially catastrophic for me!

Don't ever want to live in a city again. I was born and raised in New York City. I might want to live about 45 minutes outside some southern city of mid size but I would never live "in" a city again.

Re: If you had a choice which city would you move to ?

I grew up in So Calif (too much traffic) and lived in Page AZ for a short time...we moved to So. Oregon 12 years ago.

My first choice is So. Oregon- we have 4 seasons here...which we didn't have in So. Calif.
I love where I live (2 acres, 40 black oak and tall pine trees) but someday, I would love to build a home where I have a river view (Im envious Ima saver). There are lots of possibilities for this here in Oregon....DH and I are starting to look for that little piece of heaven now.

I loved Arizona for all of it's natural sandstone beauty. Page is right by Lake Powell- one of the prettiest lakes. This would be my second choice.

I guess since I haven't travelled too much, my choices are limited. However, I have all 4 of my kids right here in So. Oregon....so I wouldn't go very far anyways.

Its great to hear where people would like to live and frankly a lot of the above mentioned places sound nice which I never considered. Unfortunately, and I don't mean to sound like a snob here, what's keeping me from making a choice is the fact I just can't live anywhere but in nice, clean and peaceful neighborhoods. I've lived in my share of typical neighborhoods where people are speeding down the residential streets, leaving beer bottles on the curbs and your neigbors weird looking friends are hanging around your house. I did't care about any of that stuff until recently and after renting in an upscale neighborhood for the last 2 yrs now I don't think I can live anywhere else. Even when I get on the freeway to go to work and see people using the public roads as their personal playground it really upsets me. Maybe I'm becoming unsocial but I don't remember people being this rude and self-centered when I was growing up.

Interesting, I have never felt like I couldn't move anywhere I wanted to (apart from occasionally not having the funds to rent a moving truck). I am choosing to stay where I am for the moment, but not for long, because I hate cold winters. I really like Oregon (I'd probably move to Portland at first) and San Antonio. I've heard wonderful things about Austin and I'd love to visit. I'd love to live in California, but I'd also like to buy a house. Hmm. Fascinating responses, I'd love to read more!

I have never lived in anything but a nice neighborhood either. As much as I would like to live on about 20 acres out in the country, you just can't regulate your neighbors. I live in a subdivision that has rules and regulations, the rest of the county, well anything goes! I have almost 2 acres, so no one is right on top of me.

Re: If you had a choice which city would you move to ?

How cold in Oregon...well, here where we live the winters are typically 20's at night 30s during the day... Spring 20s-30's at night and 30's to 40s during the day
                      summer....can get up to 105+ during the day...and fall 30s night/ 40s day.

I live on a valley floor....so we get snow flurries a few times a year, but the snow doesn't stick for more than a few hours- a day at most.

There are two really 'cool' towns near us. Jacksonville- which is a quaint historical town with alot of 1800 buildings. There is a little coffee shop there in an old brick building w/ wood floors that we love to visit on an occaisional Sunday morning for mochas and bagels (yum)...

Then, at the other end of the valley is a town called Ashland. Ashland is a college town...and they have the Oregon Shakesperean Festival there...a very cultured town with lots of 'earthy'- type folks and shops...

I love the wildflowers here in the spring...right now it's daffodils...sooon it will be tulips followed by everything else...and in the fall, those oak trees turn out some beautiful fall foliage!

Summer...is just plain HOT...but there is the "Rogue River" within 5 minutes of my home...where we take our rafts and float for hours....there are the most beautiful homes along the river...spaced by lots of pine trees...After the cost of your raft and lifejacket...it is FREE and so much fun!!!

                      OK...that's all about Oregon.

I wouldn't go anywhere. I have lived in many places and I always wanted to live where I live now. Although it's very expensive here it's warm all year round and I can go to the beach anytime. that's priceless!!

Small world! I lived in Ashland for about 4 years, and worked in jacksonville for a short time. Love it down there. I remember the first day I moved there though, it was 118 degrees and we couldn't stand outside for more than a few minutes at a time. My parents are now in Eagle Point, and there's a lake up there called Lost Creek Lake, very clean water, warm in the summer, and hardly anyone ever there. THAT is where I'd live if i have the choice.

I have the great fortune of being able to live anywhere as my husband's company flys him to whereever it is he is needed. But saying that I would stay exactly where I am.
Being ex military we have lived in a lot of places and this is the best by far. Newcastle, Australia. is great. We are about 1 and1/2 hours from Sydney. Our house is 6 mins drive to the beach, 30 mins to over 100 wineries in the Hunter Valley, 20 mins to National Park.
Population is approx 150,000 university, theatres, 3 cinemas, four shopping centres, numerous restaurants, great school and three bears weather...not too hot and not too cold...just right.
                            We'll never move from Newcastle.
Australia is the best country (yes I'm biased of course) to live in. Now if we could actually get a decent alternative for our Prime Minister it would be even better!

I used to live in Vancouver and it is my first choice for cities. Second would be where I live now, and third would be Portland. Fourth - Victoria, BC. Fifth - Bellingham, WA. It's important for me to be near Canada and to have a place to ride my scooter year-round. It's also critical for me to be in a city that has a decent chance of surviving an oil crisis. So that knocks out NY, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia. I'd like to be able to buy a house so that eliminates San Francisco, Honolulu and Oakland.

For this magical combination I must accept high cost of living and high housing prices.

I love living in the mountains of Blairsville, Ga.! It is not too hot or too cold. No hurricanes!
