Also, food labels in the US can be confusing and somewhat unregulated at that point. With organic, locally grown (locavore), non-GMO, people who like cane sugar in their specialty soda pop rather than high fructose corn syrup in the commercial brands - sometimes people get hung up on these principles that mostly have no foundation and do act like they are morally superior human beings sometimes (but not always) or have a more sophisticated palate. I do think it takes all kinds of people though. I like that some people only eat local food, if that's what turns their world and generates income for local growers. I think when everyone can make their own choices and buy what they want according to their own priorities, a lot more people win at capitalism.

Some day, in the probably not so distant future, many americans will insist on GMO-free ingredients which will basically kill the American farming system (IMO). I already work with companies that have to buy non-GMO ingredients from overseas. Millions/billions of dollars per year sent overseas on raw materials that cannot be proven to actually contain GMO's when produced in the USA.Last edited by grumpter; 03-14-2013, 07:30 PM.

Compare local shops to find the most economical organic items. Within the same city, organic produce prices may vary greatly. Prices for organic foods have dropped in the past few years.Find local organic growers and buy directly to save money.
