Re: What things actually PAY for themselves?

Well I am sure I have said this before, but the best $300 I have ever spent was on my puppy (age 6 now) named Holly. No way anything else could give me so much happiness for 6 years! For just 13 1/2 cents a day too!!

one of my FAVORITE possessions...and it was FREE---my LIBRARY CARD.

also- my rewards credit card...I pay it in full each month and every month or two they pay ME for using it!!

My hair clips....they keep me from paying to have my head shaved each summer... :0 (just kidding guys)

Two others that I can think of - everyone else had such wonderful lists!

        1) My eyeglasses - pennies per wear and just think of the auto repair costs if I drove without them into the ditch or worse - you!!

2)My classic black coat - again pennies per wear and the warmth keeps me working and going strong. Why, I'd be out in the cold without it!! !!

P.S. This isn't necessarily a tangible - but has been FANTASTIC thru the years - my husband and I agreed early on in our marriage to only live a lifestyle that I could support on my own w/o his income. So, that if I ever HAD TO make the payments w/o him it would be doable w/o an interruption in lifestyle. Trust me this helped big-time during layoffs! PRICELESS!!

(Don't suggest do-it-yourself. I'm absolutely clueless about home repair and while I know that learning how to do these things would definitely be a pay-for-itself invesetment (if I could ever figure out where you go to have somebody teach you these things?), I've got a full-time gob, a part-time job, and am going to school part-time. No time for do-it-yourself at this juncture, though hopefully eventually.)
Definitely not a do-it-yourself-and-get-electrocuted project. Correct, you should get an electrician. A licensed one. In some cities/states you need an electrical permit as well.

Thanks so much! Sometimes it's obvious what kind of contractor to call, but in this case it wasn't, since my heating system is gas.

I feel like my treadmills have paid for themselves. I have had 2. The first one lasted over 10 years, well actually more than 15 years. I use it everyday.

                Knowledge!

I was our car hunting yesterday for a friend. He has enough money for a good vehicle but it will be a fairly cheap one.The skills needed to deal with the type of salesmen we came across are invaluable.

We'll find a good buy, but it's going to take some looking. For someone without the knowledge it would be almost impossible. I guess that's why they have to buy new and put up with the depreciation cost.

my internet connection fees! Without the internet I would pay tons more for items since I can compare prices without driving store to store and also free shipping at many stores! The website I have makes me money! The valuable information you find like freebies, price deals, etc.

Front load washer/dryer is paying for itself in water bills.

Tankless water heater (not purchased yet, but will soon) by using much less energy and you are not heating the water just to sit in the pipes and cool.

And the most suprising one I have not seen anyone say....drumroll please

                  College Education!!!!!!!!!
I am on my way to getting mine and I am sure it will pay for itself several times over!
