  • Does anyone have AT&T Wireless Home Phone service?

We have cell phone service with AT&T and I've gotten a couple of ads from them for their wireless home phone service. It starts at just $9.99/mo. and lets you keep your regular phone number and phones. You can even take the wireless base with you when you travel and have your "home" phone service no matter where you are.

It sounds like a great way to keep a "landline" without actually having one. Do any of you have this service?

I've not heard of this particular service from AT&T, but I use a magic jack for essentially the same purpose. Ordinarily, I keep in at home hooked up to a standard telephone to make/receive calls from home. But beyond that, I can take it anywhere -- just plug it in to my laptop or a router, and I've got my "home phone" (stable, stateside phone number) anywhere in the world. I've taken it across the country, throughout Japan and Korea, and to the Arabian peninsula.... It's always worked great for me, and as a plus, it's VERY cheap ($20/yr). Love it.

Just so you know, Consumer Reports has consistently ranked AT&T at the bottom for wireless service during the past decade. It puts Verizon up on top. (I have neither -- I use a pay-as-you go phone from TracPhone).
