  • Cell Phone Land Line?

How many minutes do you have on your cell phone plans if you don't have a land line? How many minutes on your cell phone plan if you do?

So many people go without a landline do you not use a lot of minutes?

WE have a landline, but we never use any minutes to speak of, on a 4-person plan. On our last plan, all calls to Verizon customers were free. Probably nights and weekend, too. We just switched to sprint and all calls to "cell phones," and nights and weekends are free. We seem to average about 100 minutes a month (daytime calls to/from landlines).

We do have a landline, but it is rarely used. Most the people that I know do not have landlines, thus the very low minutes usage.

I have 450 minutes on my cell - don't know for sure what DH has, but we are both on AT&T so it's free to talk to each other (and other AT&T members - most of our family is on that).

With most people our age, we text or facebook or email, so we don't need as many minutes.

The only people I know who still have landlines either have confidential businesses or live in the middle of nowhere.

400 anytime minutes, unlimed Verizon to Verizon minutes, and unlimited texting.

In the 10 years that I've had my phone, I've gone over the minutes one time.

I'm hoping to see what others respond. More the younger people who've never had landlines and I wonder do they only use 400 minutes a month?

BME do you have unlimited texting? What's your plan on ATT per month? With everything? Would it be worth it to not have texting and use google voice for free text messaging? Or get people to call instead?

My current situation isn't very comparable, because Japan does cell plans very differently than in the US... Everything is charged by the half-minute, and charges depend on who you call, who calls you, what company you both have, the time of day, and so on. Even texts are that way. Pain in the butt, so I could never explain my usage out here.

But before I came to Japan, I had a plan with 450min + 200 texts per month, and no landline. I normally averaged about 350 minutes and 100 texts of actua use... Unfortunately, there wasn't really a good option for me to have a smaller plan at the time, so I was definitely over-paying. Total cost was ~$45/mo.

I'm moving back to the states this summer, and I'll be using a no-contract plan with 250min + unlimited texts per month, and I have a MagicJack (unlimited minutes)... Not going to get a regular landline. This setup should be perfect for me, because I can primarily use texting and a fair number of minutes for when I'm out and about, then MagicJack when I'm home (where I do most of my least my longer-duration calls anyway). Total cost will be ~$27/mo.
