I like the dating analogy. Funny and fairly acurate. I find the less time you have, the more selective you become. You can size people better and weed them out fast if they don't fit.

We're 33 and 34 with a young child and so are most of our friends. It's a struggle to just keep fairly continuous contact with the friends we have. We've actually had to prioritize who we want to keep up with, the others become "acquaintances". For the same reasons, it's also hard to make new friends (beyond just acquaintances). They have to be prioritized in.

Like DS said, I'd think this is mostly a function of having a young familly and being centered towards it.

I would second this. We are 47 and 48 but we've often found that we get along better and have more in common with folks considerably older than us. My wife and I go out periodically with a local pharmacist and his wife who I met through work. They are in their late 60s and have grown kids and grandkids, but we get along great and always have plenty to talk about. Same for the temple administrator I mentioned earlier. Not quite as old but also with grown kids and grandkids.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are a few young couples who we've gone out with and we really enjoy their company. In fact, I just met a new sales rep in my office who is getting married in March and next time I see her, I'm going to see if the 4 of us can go out to dinner sometime. She is in her late 20s and is a wonderful person and in the short time I've known her, we've gotten pretty friendly. I've never met her fiancee but from what I've heard, he's a good person too. The fact that the older couples are 20 years our senior and the young couples are 20 years our junior really doesn't matter to us one bit.
