I am gifted a bonus based on my work performance, since non-lawyers cannot take a percentage of what a firm brings in. We will see what he has in store for us soon!
by law, in ES you get X amount depending on your salary and years of service:
up to 1 year: 10 days salary (or proportional if you haven't worked a full year with the company)
1-3 years: 15 days salary
3-10 years: 21 days salary
10 years or more: 30 days salary
The company I work for gives you more:
1-2 years: 21 days salary
3-9 years: 26 days salary
10 years or more: 30 days salary
I got $560, but, that's subject to taxes, so I ended up getting about $500
When I was teaching I would get a $100 year end bonus, which after taxes was more like ~$55. At the last school I worked at, the home and school association would also give each teacher somewhere around $100 - $130 tax free - not to mention any gifts students gave you.
I remember the first year I got that - my class had just sat down for worship (Christian school) and the home and school leader brought this huge red ribbon and put it on my table (I didn't have a desk). I noticed some glints of green, but didn't think much of it. Then it came time to open presents. After the kids were done, I opened mine - I bet the look on my face as I pulled out 20 after 20 and 10 after 10 was priceless. I was in total happy shock.
I also would get a $25 gift card for my birthday, and since it is in December, I considered that part of my year end bonus too.
Now, working for a temp agency, I really doubt they give end of year bonuses.
