VITA Volunteers are Needed In Your Community.
The IRS and its partners are looking for volunteers to help prepare their federal and state tax returns. Volunteers Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) volunteers prepare simple federal and state tax returns for people whose incomes are $36,000 or less. Anyone can volunteer. If you are interested and want to help, you can be involved in this program. The IRS provides free training materials to community organizations that sponsor VITA. Training classes generally start in December or January and are held at convenient locations. The IRS offers electronic tax law training, Link and Learn, as another training option. Volunteers generally spend two to four hours per week from late January through April 15 assisting people.
