Most Romantic Thing Ever

Think back to those romantic moments in your life. What is the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you (G-rated, of course)?

Last year my boyfriend filled my entire apartment with flowers. I had vases everywhere for weeks. It was totally surprising and so sweet.

A guy I dated my Junior/Senior year of college flew to my town during Christmas break. I was having jaw surgery to correct an overbite. He was completely against the surgery. But he waited in the waiting room while I was in surgery, and then when I was out, he read to me and just stayed there holding my hand, letting me know he was there. He had to leave to go back to CA before I was released to go home. But when I got home I found a beautiful vase with a dozen red roses, and an oversized mug filled with teacher pencils and goofy straws - plus a really sweet note from him.

DH (before he was DH) surprised me by recommending us going to KFC and picking up dinner and then going to Blue Lake Park and having a picnic. It was extremely romantic. Of course, that was the last romantic thing he ever did.

It's a long story. I was the one who ended our relationship a few weeks before my graduation. Part of it was that I was scared. Life felt like it was moving too fast. Part of it was that at the time there was an issue that was very big for me, and I didn't know how it would affect us in the long run. At the time I felt that I was doing the best thing for myself and for any children we may have had.

Now, 8 1/2 years later, with a lot more life experience under my belt, that "big issue" isn't such a big deal anymore. He's the one I've never forgotten. The one I've compared every man I've dated since then to.
It's one of those things where I wish I could go back into time to my 21 yr old self and tell me that it would be alright - not to obcess over the "big issue" it would work itself out. Allow yourself to be happy.

But of course I can't do that. I tend to be one who learns lessons in life the hard way.

When dh and I bought our first house, my grandmother had just passed away and I really wanted a china cabinet to put the beautiful china in that she had left for me. Well, there was no way we could afford one. Dh convinced his mom to give him an antique cabinet that she used for storage, and then sold some of his much loved hockey card collection to pay for it to be restored. I knew nothing about this... he even arranged to have the cabinet delivered to the neighbours, made up a reason that I had to go over there, and there it was with a big bow and card! He is a romantic guy but not in the usual way. When he proposed to me, he created a word search for me of special places in the city we were going to vacation in, and told me when I found all the words to look for a secret message...it was "Will you marry me?" Yep, I found my keeper...

DH (before he was a DH) met me after work one night at my car with a rose, everyone passing thought he was sooo sweet (me too)

Lately romantic has more to do with holding my hand while delivering a baby, bringing me chicken nuggets in the hospital. Remembering to have the right CD for the first song the baby listened to. Stuff like that, doesn't fill romance novels but sure is awesome to me.

Another really romantic/sweet thing that happened to me. About two years ago I started talking to this guy on the internet. We met through a christian singles website. Eventually he drove nearly 10 hours to come meet me. We really hit it off, and continued to talk and email on a daily basis. I decided that I wanted to go see his stomping grounds. So when school was out for the summer, I drove nearly 10 hours. Before I left he told me that when I got there he'd have three surprises for me. He wouldn't tell me what they were no matter how much I begged.

When I got to a town about 30 minutes from where he lives, I called him to let him know where I was. He told me to meet him in the Walmart parking lot so I could follow him home. When I got there, he got out of his car and handed me a single red rose (1st surprise) Then after a little hugging and kissing, I had my second surprise. His friend Bob got out of the car. Scott (the internet guy) had asked him to come along and drive his car back so that Scott could ride with me. The third surprise came after Bob had left. Scott asked me to be his girlfriend.

He really was a great guy, but I was only his second relationship (in 38 years) and he still maintained some pretty unrealistic expectations for a reltionship, as well as for other people around him.

Years ago, I met a man thru a newspaper singles ad when i was living in Vermont and he lived in Oklahoma. We met in NH, when he was home for the holidays visiting his parents. Later, I flew out to Oklahoma to spend some time with him; he met me at the airport, he wore a big cowboy hat and his face was mostly hidden by a big bouquet of flowers he was holding. It was a very nice greeting.

My dh before he was my dh drove for over 2 hours on horribly icy roads to be with me instead of staying over in the town he was working in. I really felt that he should have stayed put but he insisted.
