    Re: $6000

    $6000.....

I would buy my daughter a clarinet so she can continue to learn to play and I dont have to keep renting one...
I would pay a down payment on my parents dentures...so they can finally have teeth that fit...
I would pay one debt of DD1s off..so they could have extra to put away for emergencies each month...
I would give equal amounts to DS and DD2 towards homes...
DH would use a little towards his wood business...
I would build a nice warm whelping pen for the upcoming puppies....
and I would find a single mom to help out.

Some times, you can't teach your kids about money. I am a perfect example. I always saved and scrimped. I made my daughter save a portion of all money she received as a child, when she did baby sitting, and finally when she got a job. To this day, she does not have a dime saved, does not pay her bills and has borrowed so much from me that when I said, no more, I do not ever hear from her. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

I would pay off my credit card debt: $2300 total.
I would put $3000 in some sort of CD so I could get a higher interest rate than my savings account.
I would put the remaining $700 in my savings account as part of my "emergency fund."

Use $1200 to pay off my smaller college loan.
Take out $800-$1000 in cash and hide it at home for emergencies (e.g. bird flu).
Go out to a nice dinner.
Put the rest into my savings account to keep it handy for a used car downpayment.

I wonder what the original poster did with it?

If I had $6000.00 it would be enough to pay off all my debt and leave me with $1000.00

Buy a van now, rather than in August (which is when we're planning to have that van money saved)

Replace my car. Which is actually what I'm currently doing. I have a budget of $6,000. But with $12,000 I could get a really new used Honda Accord.

I would pay $1000 towards my mortgage
The rest I would add to my emergency fund to meet my goal (15k) because we want to buy a bigger house, and we might have to pay for both of them for a few months until we sell the small one. We would also need to do some improvements once we buy it. The money for the down payment will come from the equity loan which I will get and pay off once we sell the small house. But if we would find the house at a good price before we meet our goal, we'll get it.
