All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are, Compared with Gasoline.

Think a gallon of gas is expensive? This makes one think, and puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 .....$10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 .....$ 9.52 per gallon
    Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 .....$10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 .....$10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 .....$33.60 per gallon
    Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ....$123.20 per gallon
    Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 .....$25.42 per gallon
    Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...
Evian water 9 oz $1.49.. $21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive)

Ever wonder why printers are so cheap? So they have you hooked for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at...(you won't believe it....) $5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars) or $1,373.68 per litre.

So,the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!

I don't remember the last time I had to buy brake fluid.
Vicks Nyquil was on sale REAL cheap (FREE?) after a $4 coupon a couple months ago.
    Who still uses whiteout????
Some brand of mouth wash goes on sale for $1/less per liter after coupons every few weeks.

I do NOT buy any of the other items on your list. Howerver Snapple, Lipton, Gatorade all go on sale at $1/less quite frequently.
My water comes from the tap - every meal.
My cartridges get refilled at Walgreens - generally on sale or w/a % off coupon.

Difference is that many have to buy gas where these items are not necessary. Also, cars consume far more than humans, which higher prices have a real affect.

Lists like this are always entertaining, but obviously serve no real purpose. We don't go out and buy 10-15 gallons/week of Scope or brake fluid.

And some of us do still use white-out. I know my daughter and I each have a bottle on our desks and we use it at work (though the tape kind, not the liquid kind).

        * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
        * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
        * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I wish it did. I'm not one of the morons who pays for bottled water!

We drink almost nothing other than water. I use tap water and distill it so that it has a great taste. I have never bought bottled water.

I buy bottled water sometimes, and I hardly think that makes me a "moron". I'll buy a bottled water if I'm at school and I happen to have forgotten to bring my own bottle of water from home. I don't like the taste of tap water, so I'm not going to just fill it from the faucets. It's still better than buying that same bottle full of slop (pop). I try to remember to fill up a bottle of water at home (I just use a Brita for drinking water) and bring it with me everywhere, but I do forget sometimes.

This forum is pretty entertaining! And there are people out there who drink bottled water, Snapple and Gatorade daily - so teh numbers are interesting! I like the Evian one - that's funny!!! I drink bottled water, especially when at work! Thanks for the post!

I don't think it is moronic to buy bottled water. In some places people are not fortunate enough to be able to drink tap water because it can be harmful.

Thanks for sharing the list. It just goes to show you how much we have to try to save money on all kinds of food and drink items nowadays, to even make the cost reasonable! Gas is still more of a necessity than the items you listed, however.

This post shows why it is so hard to find alternatives to gas powered vehicles. In terms of energy per $, gas is relatively cheap.

That may be true in third-world countries, but here in the US, with rare exception, it is not. Municipal water supplies are perfectly safe. In fact, many brands of bottled water are nothing more than filtered tap water. The fact that people shell out $1 or more per bottle for water that is free at the tap is mind-boggling.

You might be surprised at what is reported. But that's only what is reported.

If you have any "taste" to water, then it's probably not pure. I go by taste.

I filter all water for cooking, drinking etc. and store in solid plastic (non-squeezable) containers both in and out of the fridge.

                              Steve,

I agree that water is good most places, and I do know that some bottled water is taken from the tap. If that is the cased then it is wasteful to buy bottled water puts more waste in our landfills etc. I am just saying, not everyone has this privilege, and just because it doesn't "taste bad" to you doesn't mean that it is good.
