Re: What are your thermostat settings?

62 most of the time. If I want to get the chill out I will turn it up a little more. Probably turn it up to 65 when it starts to get really cold. Hate the thought of winter bills this winter.

If you put the baby to sleep in blanket sleeper type things, 71 may be too hot. I know my kids were sweaty as all get out in blanket sleepers at 65.

My doctor told me that there is no harm to temps of 65 even for extended periods of time and even for sleep.

You might ask your doc to see what he says.

Thanks for that note Andrew. When does the risk of SIDS drop? How old is does the infant have to be. It just really bothers my wife when we get him up in the morning and his little feet are freezing!

Re: What are your thermostat settings?

Most SIDS deaths occur between 1 and 4 months. The risk drops significantly after 6 months. (I only know because we are overprotective 1st-time parents. )

We don't bother putting a blanket over my (now 10-month-old) son because he throws it off anyway. So we have to keep the temp at least 69 degrees.

We'll stick to our plan then - thanks for the info.

Someone asked about automatic thermostats - ours is programmable, so we don't need to do anything once it's set up.

Does everyone really set their thermostat that low? I have mine set at 70 degrees and my wife and kids bug me often about how cold it is in the house.

Jason, you can get used to it.

Of course, now I live in the subtropics and when the inside temps drop to below 70 I want to just curl up in a ball. I adapted soooo well to the 90+ temps into November that December with its 50-60s is killing me.

Re: What are your thermostat settings?

We set our house at 72 during the evenings when we are at home...the little one's hands get too cold. During the day (while we are at work) we go down to 65 and at night (sleeping) we go down to 68.

We purchased a 2-cycle thermostat (weekday/weekend) to program the temps in our house. It cost about $30 at Lowe's.

I keep the house at 70 F. CJ is extremely warm blooded and will get overheated at night should I raise it any more.

Re: What are your thermostat settings?

Two years ago, DH and I struggled to get used to the cold 70 degree house, last year we struggled to get used to 68 and occassionally 65.

It is amazing I am just as cold in the AM at 65 as I was at 70, if I am goign to be cold I might as well have it cheap and cold!

My 2 floor dutch colonial is set for 61 - YES, 61. Its chilly, but a pair of sox and a sweater seems to balance things out. And it keeps the bills down. If it seems too cold, then a small space heater in a room with a closed door seems to do the trick.
