  • New Years Eve Plans ???

Have never ben much on going out because:

Costs WAAAAY too much as all places really raise prices a BUNCH
Service is deplorable as woking staff hate having to work
Weather is usually the pits (cold, snow, sleet)
Its drunk drivers all over all the roads

For many years (>25) late DH & I had an open house but the weather and drunk driver issues got to be way too much for our friends & family. Last 5-10 years DDs have had open houses but I do not go because of weather & other driver issues.

this year I just intend to blow a wad on a really special meal:

seafood appetiser (shrimp, crab or lobster)
    top notch steak
pasta w/ veg, olive oil & garlic or twice baked potatoe
    ceasar salad
    creamed spinach
cheesecake (from Sara Lee outlet store)
    wine, champagne, Baileys

Exactly what seafood & steak I have will depend on this week's food ads. The only other item I still need to get is the cheesecake.

I will also make either guacamole or spinach dip to have for breakfast while watching the Rose Bowl parade New Years day.

    What are your plans?

Those are our plans exactly. Well, different menu but otherwise same plan. New Year's Eve is so completely overhyped......we also always watch the Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy channel. It's our NYE tradition.

whats your menu going to be? I am still somewhat open to suggestion.
I don't have cable so no marathons for me unless something on PBS.

Drinkin! LOL JK Debating about small group of friends to come over for drinks and gaming. Downtown like you said is too crowded, loud, and expensive. Plus drunk drivers, and law enforcement watching the roads, and expected to get more snow that night. Last year it worked out well at my place.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

          Okay so I'm thinking:

          small finger sandwiches
spinach and crab dip with warm tortilla chips
          veggie platter
          strawberry cheesecake
champagne for us, sparkling cider for the kids

I usually end up at a house party. I stay away from bars on that night.

We will eat some special traditional foods and call family overseas to give them our best wishes. Then we will try to comfort our dog when the fireworks go off. If it weren't for the fireworks, we would likely be in bed before midnight. We would be more likely to get up early to watch the first sunrise of the New Year than stay up late for the stroke of midnight.

New Year's Day we are going to an open house to watch some football and enjoy the company of friends.

We'll be at Disney World watching the fireworks (most likely from outside the Magic Kingdom).
We usually go to EPCOT for NYE, but the year our hotel is close to the MK so we'll see the fireworks there.

We are having our normal "family party". We have nachos for dinner, chips and dip, and pop. We sit around and watch movies. When it is close to midnight, we flip over to watch the ball drop. Then, we flip back over to the movie and finish it up and go to bed.

my menu is taking shape and its (so far) MUCH cheaper than I anticipated. Picked up a 1 lb NY strip steak yesterday for $2.23 and it will be 2-3 servings. Also got a pkg of frozen spinach on sale for 0.69-its 2 servings. Also got onion dip and humos on sale for 0.99 each for NY day breakfast. Have Pita, pretzels and veggies on hand. I have the pasta/potato, salad fixings, wine & champagne on hand. I do also have shrimp on hand but since everything else was SOOO much cheaper than anticipated I might buy a package of sushi ($7). Still need to get my cheesecake.

Will have to see what the new food ads are like today or Wed.

I personally like spending New Year's eve and New Year's day with my family just hanging out and being thankful for the time together.

I usually cook a big dinner for New Year's day but nothing really over the top.

This year in particular (after a rather serious health issue early this month), I'm just glad I'm here and able to enjoy the day.

I'm doing a big house party as well! Just doesn't make sense to go out in my opinion - so expensive, dangerous driving, etc. Last new years eve I didn't even go out, but was on the road giving my uncle a ride and a drunk driver got into a fender bender right in front of me, (which turned out to be my neighbor!) thankfully everyone was o.k. but I just learned that his car insurance is so incredibly high now. So long story short everyone - please be careful, stay inside, and Happy New Years!

Went to the grocery chain where I have a BIG gift card to get sushi. NO way. The other chain is MUCH cheaper/lb and I like the selection/mixed tray better. Will go today on my way to visit my Dad.

Did get my cheesecake. Bought the one on sale for $3 and got the Wed senior discount (had forgotten about that_ - so 2.70 for I estimate 4 servings.
