  • IRA account

    Hi,

I am looking to open IRA account for me and my wife.
Which one would you recommend? Why?

I hear a lot of people talk about Vanguard account here. What is so different about it? Why should one open it?

I see that one can trade vanguard ETF commission free via brokerage account.

Can I buy vanguard ETF via IRA account? If yes, is it commission free as well?

The 3 big players who I think hold about 80% of the business are Vanguard, Fidelity and T. Rowe Price. Any one of them is a great choice. They have a broad range of investment offerings with low expenses and great customer service.

If Vanguard has commission-free ETFs, then yes, that would apply in an IRA.

FYI: IRA stands for Individual Retirement Account so saying IRA account is redundant.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

+1 for Vanguard. Very low cost funds and you can re-invest divy for free. No setup costs, no annual fee.

UPC code is another one that irks me. Also hot water heater....why do you need to heat water that is already hot?

Is there a reason you want to buy ETFs? Do you have a list of specific investments you are looking for? There are many different potential solutions. I use a different brokerage, but get free trades, and buy Vanguard ETFs.

I'm interested in learning more about American ETFs. [our system is so boring] What process/criteria do you use to determine allocation? My Equity & Bond ETFs need rebalancing and having a devil of a time choosing allocation. When I look at Value vs Growth I get stressed. It gets worse when I try to add a small capitalization ETF. My bank now offers a Base Metals ETF would anyone here buy into that segment? Yesterday I heard a discussion on the radio about BRIC [I figure they're selling it] and wonder how much RISK I can stand. Our plan to go to Las Vegas got tanked so do I take vacation $$$ and buy a high risk product?

I dont have a lot of money to invest right now and proper allocation is not my priority, but I liked this article - El-Erian's Recommended Allocation vs. Harvard, Yale - Seeking Alpha.
I like metals ETF. SLV, IAU and UGL (its 2X) are top on my list.
