We too get asked if we want to apply for a Target Debit card, only when we don’t use our existing Target Red Card. Yes, you do save 5% off your total purchase, each time you use your Target card or now called Target Debit Card. The only drawback to having the Target card, Debit Card, is that the interest rate is very high, 25%. If you don’t pay off your card regularly, interest does add up fast.
We have learned from Clark Howard, it is best to use ANY of your cards, like they were debit cards, withdrawing from your bank account. This way, you are never charged interest and the balance they report to your consumer credit report, will always be within a good ratio of your total limits.
The high interest rate on the card is not good and it can get people into financial trouble, if they don’t spend only what they can afford. The only reason why we are keeping our card is for the 5% discount, each time we shop at Target. Know your budget before walking into Target and never spend more than what you can pay back, when you receive the bill in the mail.
