Growing up in a poor single parent home, I learned the value of insurance.
For my vehicles, I have always had insurance and never let it laps... thankfully, I have not needed it.
For my home, I have always had insurance and never let it laps... thankfully, I have not needed it.
For my health, since I have been on my own, I have had it, and on occasion, I have needed it and thankful it was there.
For my dental, since I have been on my own, I have had it, and on occasion, I have needed it and thankful it was there.
For my life insurance, since I have been on my own, I have had it and never let it laps... thankfully, I have never needed it...
Knowing all this, you would think my emergency fund would go un-used... That is until last month when my CAT broke her leg. Yes, my cat, as in meow...
We went on vacation over the weekend and came home to find our cat broke her leg. A trip to the local Vet sent us to a specialist in Nashville, TN to repair her leg. In the end, the surgery that included two titanium plates/pins and a blood transfusion cost us... over $4,000 (USD).
Who would have thought a simple cat would cost $4,000...
My advise, pet insurance.
For those of you that are going to ask... three weeks later, on Friday the 13th, we had to put Simba Sue down due to complications. We are not concerned about the money (not that were well off, it's just easier to spend that amount of money on a cat when you live debt free and have an emergency fund).
Simba lived a long happy life of about 14 years (Indoor cat) to a loving family.
