I wonder how one would find a low cost or free counselor? Someone who is required to keep your secrets? I really feel the need to talk about some bad things going on with my family members. it is hard keeping it in but not something i want everyone to know.

Does your employer offer counseling sessions through their employee assistance program? These programs do not report your sessions to the employer. Maybe there are counseling or self help forums online, not that I have checked or have any to recommend.

I'm in the process of looking for a counselor myself. It is a daunting task. Good luck to you!!

Do you affiliate with any religious group? A priest, minister, rabbi, etc. should offer free counseling.

If nothing else, the preacher/bishop/father/minister/priest/rabbi/etc of just about every church out there is open to offering counseling on a wide variety of issues (not restricted to religious issues). As with professional counselors, they are totally private and do not report your discussions to anyone. So if you're a church go-er (or even if not), you can always turn to one of them. They may steer toward a more religious resolution, but not necessarily. On the upside, their help is free.

Many schools or professional phyc. organizations require newer counselors to work with people at no/low cost in order to get the hours they need for certification. You might want to reach our to a med school or organization in your area.

Many times the religious official knows of free help in your own community as well, so even if you don't want their direct help they can point you in the right direction.

Another route to try is the phone book, when I was a teen there was a section of tax supported help from mental to medical to food, and what not.

Look for someone who works on a sliding scale if you're looking for the paid professional route.

I talked to my pastor and she said that I should pray for them (people who did wrong deed) That didn't help much. I don't have access to counseling thru work. There is not a school for that around here.
