What does "banned" mean when it appears under your user-name on a thread?

It means that the user has broken the forum rules (usually they have been spamming) and are no longer allowed to post. -

You really have to do something that is clearly SPAM to get banned. As the site becomes more popular, more and more people come and put pyramid and other such schemes into the forums - that will get them banned right away. Also if it is clear that the only reason they posted was to promote their site and have no intention of being a contributing member to the site.Comment

Yes, there are a group of very helpful moderators that clean up SPAM posts. Hmmmm, a very good question. Let's say I'm getting a bit better at sleeping now that site has matured a bit - but as anyone know who has a website, sleep is one of those things that comes few and far between.
