I bought a Hyundai Elantra brand new in 2005. It currently has 96,000 miles on. I've been religious about servicing the car, and it still runs like new. I've never had any major trouble with the car, and other than a few minor scratches and dings it still looks good. I'm thinking about driving the car as long as it continues to be reliable. On another automotive forum that I belong to I've seen the other members saying that getting 300,000 out of one of these cars is not unrealistic. I think I'm going to see just how far I can push this car. Does anyone else have a high mileage and/or older car that they have no plans on getting rid of?

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry. It has about 125,000 miles. I don't have any current plan to replace it. I'm just going to wing it, keep up on maintenance and continue driving it until it needs some expensive repair that I feel isn't worth it.Steve

I have two 4 WD trucks. One has 138000 and the other has 120000. I take them both thru hell and high water. I'm driving them til they scream "uncle". I have a compact car though that's starting to say "uncle" so it will need to be replaced soon......Bummer! just the way it goes."Those who can't remember the past are condemmed to repeat it".- George Santayana.

About 110k miles on our 2001 Ford.
No plans to ditch the car any time soon. It will get 200k miles, easy, based on reviews. (It's got less miles, today, than most any other car we ever bought. We are used to driving cars to 200k +miles. This one, to me, is a "baby.") In general, I expect to drive it 15 years. Though, would certainly drive it longer if it held up.

9-year-old Infinity I-30.......bought off of Ebay two years ago......140,000 Miles.....worst car I've ever owned.
People, I'm forty. I have had a brake job here and a starter problem there. I even replaced a transmission on an old Ford explorer once.
But, I've never, ever experienced what I am currently experiencing. Today, the car isn't even capable of pulling out of the garage after first minute of being turned on. Last week, it began a new humming noise (I think from the front wheels). The back brakes exude a smell like the whole city of Pittsburgh must smell like at any given moment. My driver's-side electric seat went out just last week. I won't even get into the air-conditioning and electrical issues in the fall of 2009.
The weird thing is the car looks good (for what it is).
Anyway, I just had to rant to someone. Thank you.
P.S. I have nothing against Pittsburgh. In fact, I've never even been there. It just seemed to fit with the rant.

I've heard that Infinities have been know for having problems. And, I live near Pittsburgh and it doesn't smell at all. All the mills closed up years ago.Originally posted by jefffou View Post9-year-old Infinity I-30.......bought off of Ebay two years ago......140,000 Miles.....worst car I've ever owned.

Our '96 subaru legacy has 300k on it. We just had some issues that required repair but they were cheaper than buying a new car. Most of our repairs are just standard maintenance costs (tires, oil changes, etc). Its never died on us because I notice changes before they blow up and we will probably keep driving it until I feel it has become unreliable. At that time, we will pay cash for a newer car though probably not brand new.

::sigh:: sore subject for me....
I bought a brand spankin' new '07 Civic Si in June 2007 with only 5 miles on it, planning to keep it for at least 10 years. It now has almost 45k miles after multiple cross-country trips. I love this car, but I'm being stationed to Okinawa, Japan this summer. The kicker: they don't allow the import of cars made after 1978 (or something like that)... So now I'm looking at probably having to sell it or put it in storage for at least 2-3 years. I'm not wholly opposed to storage, but every bit of advice I'm getting from friends and parents is to just sell it.
Still haven't made my decision yet, and I have a few months still to do it, but I may find myself selling my car right around the 3-year point (of ownership).
