Re: Are Americans Lazy & Fat?

For anyone not any good at cooking rice (like me .) try a rice steamer, it is no worry no work, dump in rice and water (more water for brown rice than white) and ignore for 30 minutes (40 if brown)

Only trouble after cooking Jasmine long grain for YEARS I keep forgetting the extra 10 or 15 minutes for the brown, but I am getting better.

And my unasked for 2 cents on dieting, DON"T, take baby steps to change your habits, you didn't get on the processed refined habit overnight you wont change it overnight.

That was the route I took and honestly I am amazed at how easy it was, course it has been almost 7 years, but my family really does eat much better, with two notable exceptions, Pringles, and Vacations. Oh and does anyone have a lil'Debbie swiss roll? I have been craving one for weeks .

It's not just Americans, by the way, who are becoming obese. It's a growing problem worldwide (Australia, for instance, land of sun and kangaroos, is ranked right behind the US in terms of obesity), thanks to our import of artery clogging fast food.

Britain too has its share of weight problems, partly because of diet, partly because exercise is being knocked out of the school curriculum, some even suggest working mums are partly to blame.

Having said that I wouldn't say that the original question is a good one. Lots of people in America, some of whom may be fat and lazy but I don't think it's helpful to place people into easy fit categories.

I just wish it was easier to store fresh veggies. I mean when I have a craving for say watermelon, it isn't like at 10 p.m. at night I can just run to the store! nor would I want to. and they only last so many days.

Cicy, I've been told you can freeze watermelon. I suspect, though, that it is very mushy when you thaw it. Maybe if you make balls to freeze and eat them frozen. I did this with orange slices and they were wonderful to eat frozen.

I would not eat it mushy but I might try the freezing balls things. That might be good. I love grapes frozen.

Americans are definitely more fat than any other nation. A recent study published on cnn a few weeks ago said 65% of Americans are either obese or have weight problems!! that's shocking!

Yes you can blame the fast food, fast life and I agree with that to a certain point but I also know that we eat the biggest portions of food than any other country. When we have our overseas employees come visit us for training or what not they're always amazed at how large the portions are. A few times they thought the food in the container was for multiple people.

For most of our lifestyle (like me, sitting in front of a computer 10 to 11 hours a day) I think half a portion of the food they sell is more than enough. I just can't burn enough calories sitting on my butt all day long...sure eating healthy food is important but eating less is just as important.

IMO but burning calories is more fun
