That's great! A surprise visit back home is always a fun time, regardless of what time of year it is. When I was in college, I know alot of people that were able to just randomly show up at home to surprise friends/family. I hope they both have a wonderful time over the holidays.

Congrats! If you haven't already, take that time and teach her how to use her newfound steady paycheck. I'm in the military myself (army), and I saw PLENTY of people who never had a steady income after basic training completely BLOW their checks on the 1st and 15th. Including my roommate for AIT who would get paid on Thursday, go out Friday, and ask me for 20 bucks on Saturday for McDonalds because he was broke.

Don't mean to dig and pry and whatnot, but a steady paycheck really is a blessing (in my eyes), but knowing how to manage your money it is SO much more important than the amount you get. Stop it before it starts if you can!

I try, she says she is contributing to retirement but when she comes home she does blow most of it. I find it better at least with my own kids to just continuosly make subtle comments.
