Does anyone know anything about a car that can run on vegetable oil? I was talking with a friend last night and she said that there were cars that don't take gas, but run on vegetable oil. Is this true or am I having a joke played on me again?

Re: Vegetable Oil Car???
Yes, they are real. Basically, you get a converter for a diesel engine truck or car (the original diesel engines were designed to run on peanut oil). You can find out more information about them at GreaseCar.com

I need to get me one of those...fill up at the local chinese restaurant for free. Certainly sounds like a deal! I'm not sure having my car smell like egg rolls would be the best, but would be willing to give it a try

Re: Vegetable Oil Car???
I was in Hawaii few weeks ago for a friend's wedding and there is a rental car outfit out there now that runs cars on vegetable oil. We didn't use them, but I saw their ads on the side of the cars and I wondered what that was all about. They are called bio-beetles (the use VW bettles). There site is bio-beetle.com

this might be a record....11 year bump.
Anyways, yes you can run older IDI diesel engines on veggie oil. You do need to filter and de-water the oil as well as have an alternate tank to start the engine on regular diesel and then switch over to veggie as the veggie oil needs to be warmed so the viscosity is correct. Prior to shutting of the engine you also need to switch back to diesel so your injection pump and injectors don't get clogged with goo.Gunga galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga.
