  • How much do you pay for internet?

After cancelling cable/satellite approximately 8 months ago, my husband and I raised our internet speed from 1mb/s to 10mb/s so we could hook up our laptop to the tv and watch shows off the internet easily to save money. This worked out great for 6 months because I was able to get a promotion for 25/mo. The promotion has run out and I called to see if there was anything else I could get at this speed. They said the best they could do was $40/month. Does this seem reasonable? I am going to look into who their competitors are tomorrow and see If I can call them and get a better price. Just wondering what your internet speed is and how much you pay. Thanks in advance!!

Oops! I posted this in the wrong section. How do I move it?

We pay about $40 per month for DSL. Once you get that kind of power and speed on your computer it is hard to go back to anything else. Remember when you first had a car with air conditioning? It is kind of like that.

    Good Luck!

We had 1.5mb/s with AT&T DSL. It was $25/month. All I know was that it was the slowest speed they offered, besides dial up, and we found it fine for TV watching online. My dh knows more. We actually just tried it out, thinking that we would raise the speed, but we didn't find the need to. You might be surprised. I'd also see if they offer 3mb/s.

We actually just switched to fiber optic for various reasons. 15mb/s. TV viewing options was not one of the reasons. But everything we have offered is pretty expensive. $40/month does seem reasonable. AT&T offers cheaper/faster packages, but their service really sucks.

For anything I do, I don't notice any difference. My spouse does a lot of uploading and downloading though. But streaming video seems to be the same, regardless of speed.

My wife works for the cable company we get their highest consumer speed for free. It sorta makes up for her only working part time and not making too much money. Free cable too with most of the movie channels!!

We have 3Mb/s DSL for $30 a month ($35 after taxes). $40 for 10Mb/s seems like a good deal.

3 mb/s DSL for a flat rate of $29 through AT&T. I'd probably jump on the $40 for 10Mb/s if it was available to me.

Well, I am totally mobile. I rented out my home to a nice family, and I do freelance IT development work anyplace the opportunities take me. Now I'm in Oregon. In a few months, who knows?

So given my situation (homeless) I have a MiFi device through Sprint. It is a little device the size of a deck of cards, which is battery operated, or can be plugged in, and my laptop wirelessly gets fed the internet through this little device.

For $60/month, I get up to 5gig worth of traffic each month. I never use more then 90% of that allotment, so it works great.

I'm totally mobile....rented rooms, hotels, camping, that is my work life now ;-)

Oh, and this lifestyle allows me to save at least $7,000/month after expenses. yea!!!!

Not to change the subject, but website do you use to stream your TV via the internet. All the sites I've found only post clips or older shows. Any way to get free live TV?? TIA.

search hulu, tvshack, or ovguide. Those are the 3 main websites I use and between those I can find just about anything!

I also pay $19.99 per month (not my "share" but the full price for the mid-speed DSL we obtain through our telephone company).

We tried hi-speed DSL with VOIP.... only to have both fail weekly.

Found out our "wiring" was too "old" to support it.

So, in order to have functionality, we switched to our local telephone proivder who was able to determine why hi-speed would not work consistently, and what we have works fine for everything (including hulu.com on the occasions that we're too lazy to rent a movie).

I pay more than I could if I wanted, but that is because I am not in one place. Main house is $39.95 a month for cable. I often leave to a local coffee shop which has free wifi, but I always buy something to drink (about $5 a day when I go). A bit pricey but I am so much more productive there so that it's worth the money. This month I'm traveling so have a $40 wifi service for the month in Mexico which has been pretty spotty thus far (although I'm on it at the moment).

Seriously considering doing what lovcom does with the mifi if I decide not to go out of country as much in the future.

$40/mth is reasonable.....but i wouldnot know what is reasonable and what is not because i have never had to pay for it. my connection is free- in all the fullness of the word. but the downside is that is can get painfully slow and unreliable
