Larry is dead. The new ministry is Crown ministries and is available in bible study form for your church.

For investment information one of the top rated financial personalities with a fantastic track record is bob brinker. He is on the radio on the weekends.

www.bobbrinker.com for a listing of radios.

He is mainly a mutual fund guy and doesn't sell a thing- just teaches people how to personally manage their own money. He also has a list of recommended reading. He also has some authors about once a weekend come talk. Very interesting.

Just a warning about Brinker's show. Be ready to sit through tons and tons of commercials when listening to his show. He may not sell anything directly, but he definitely makes up for it in advertising revenue.

I find the worst thing about Brinker's show is the frequent guest hosting of Larry Kudlow.

I never heard of Crown Ministries until recently when someone told me they went to a CM seminar. He said the audience was told if they declare bankruptcy they will go to hell.
They sound really extreme to me.

Only one person decides who goes to hell and that is whether or not we choose Jesus.

The most amazing thing about financial TV shows is the sameness. The products they push are the "Hot Products". Interestingly as you move from country to country the financial shows on TV have different hosts, even different languages BUT they still push the products.

The challenge I find is sifting between the advertorial and the facts. Any ideas?

This year I have tried to read some good books to help me. Unconventional Success A fundamental approach to personal investment talks about this problem of chasing performance with recommendations in advertisements, and the media and give specific examples on what their past suggestions were and what the results of the market were in light of their advice peddling. Interesting.

Jeremy Siegel is another one I really learned alot about. He uses primary research numbers to put things into perspective.

Forgot to tell you that Uncoventional success is by David F. Swensen- He is the main investor for Yale University.

Seigel is a Prof. and very knowledgeable

Sounds like someone misunderstood what was being said at the class or the teacher was off of the reservation. I have taught the class and Crown is bible based but Salvation is not based on going bankrupt but instead on the saving grace from the Lord. The bible does have over 2500 references to money and money management. So it has quite a bit to say on the subject. Biblical money management concepts help protect people. There are 10 areas of study:
                      1. Taking personal financial inventory recording income, spending
                      2. Inventry of dept and how to repay debt
                      3. Seeking good counsel for financial decisions
                      4. Giving
                      5. work and work ethic
                      6. Investing and organizing your estate
                      9. Putting money into perspective and orgainizing your insurance and filing system
10, Eternity and financial goals- leaving an inheritance.

Actually very basic and helpful to get people to go counter cultural and live fiscally responsibly.

I like Suze Orman and Dave Ramsey but Larry Burkett (Crown Ministries) was my favorite, I never heard him tell anyone they would go to hell. He was very kind to people with financial problems.

Crown have been around for quite a while and they do have some very good ideas. Their ideas on responsibility are hard to argue with as is their aim of getting people into a position where they don't need to spend all their time worrying over money.

Two new magazines I found helpful.

The first is All You price only $1.97 besides many saving articles it had over $34.00 in coupons. One issue had $144:00
Arthur Frommer's Smart Shopping only $2.99. One article was about makeup, eyes, lips, face $1:00 each. 40 Top websites for bargains.
                            Bought both at Walmart.

I found Freakenomics to ge very interesting.

The person who told me that is Gary Moore. He is a well respected author of several books. I don't think he misunderstood.
Now maybe I am misunderstanding but I read on Crown Ministries site
that if a person does file bankruptcy then should repay the creditors they listed on their bankruptcy, even if it takes a lifetime. <their words>
                              That's ridiclous.

I can empathise with what you are saying. Having been on the receiving end of people going bankrupt while they owed me money and having to scrape to survive while their debts are gone I can also understand the other side of the coin.

The basic rule is to try to avoid bankruptcy if at all possible.
