PB&J Jamz - Pre-Made Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches

I can't believe what I saw in the store today. They were called PB&J Jamz and they are premade peanut butter and jelly sanwiches. Have we really become a nation that is so lazy we can no longer even make a peanut and jelly sandwich?!?

These are in the frozen foods, aren't they? I've been seeing crust cut off, white bread peanut butter & jelly sandwiches there for, mmm, maybe 5 or more years now. Pretty shocking, huh? I wonder whom they appeal to?

Gosh, I have seen the crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for years also. They come frozen and kids really like them. They are pretty good too.

We were discussing this the other night actually. One of the moms said the frozen ones were great for those days that you didn't really have time to make a lunch, you just pull it out of the freezer and put it in the lunch box. By the time lunch rolls around it's unfrozen, but the bread is not mushy like it can be when its made.

Didn't have time to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? It literally takes 1 minute!

Has anyone compared the cost of these versus making your own?

I feel the same way about any lunch, in general. I always pack a lunch and everyone says, "Oh, I would never find the time." YEs, the whopping FIVE minutes I spend gathering a lunch every morning. lEt's face it, it's just not a priority for most people. If it was a priority, 5 minutes would be nothing.

The grocery store never ceases to amaze me. Every time I am there I spot some crazy new convenience food. & you kind of think, "is that really necessary?"

While we do buy ramen for those last minute lunches I would never pay for white bread stuffed with sugar and preservatives...

The ramen white noodle with preservatives is cheap, while the sugar stuffed preserved bread is not. If you are going to take a short cut in health and time, make it a cheap one. (I can't pack a healthy lunch for a quarter)

Our friend gives her kids the Smuckers variety for lunch and I took a bite to taste and it was pretty nasty. Seriously, just take the time and spend the 2 minutes making your kid a PB&J sandwich.

Yeah... I can't believe the stuff they have out now.

My guys had wanted to try them for years. I finally found some (like 5 years later) at a local discount store for super cheap. I bought a box. They were honey and peanut butter ones. They thought they were gross.

I love that.

They ask for something, I buy it (eventually, when I find it cheap enough), and they think it is nasty. It happens all the time.

when i saw these in the store i told the kid that came with me that if they ever are too lazy to make a pb&j they can starve. that is rediculus.

Yes, this is what we have become.

When I was a kid we had this brand of peanut butter that had the jelly swirled in it. We thought that was cool at the time.

I never got the cutting off the crust thing though. The only nutritious part of the whole sandwich.

Why would the crust be any more nutritious than the rest of the bread (unless it is a type of bread that has something sprinkled on top)? PB+J can be fairly healthy if you use natural peanut butter and a naturally sweetened jelly, not the super-processed garbage.

We were just in Disney World and a lot of the restaurant kid meals offered the Uncrustable PB+J sandwiches.

This is one of those times that I am so glad that I don't have kids asking for that type of thing. I avoid the frozen aisle that has the meal and breakfast items. I'm often amazed at what is there. I don't completely avoid it though because I do purchase Amy's Organics frozen meals - but mostly because they are organic, vegetarian and many of them are gluten-free. I remember being shocked when those lunchable things came out. Really, how long does it take to throw together some crackers and cheese and whatever else is in there?

However as to being lazy; I've notice a lot of new products that address this issue. There is some new laundry product that you use in the washer and then you put it in the dryer afterwards. It is some kind of detergent and fabric softener combo. I haven't paid too much attention to the commercial but it sounds like it is supposed to revolutionize your laundry routine and make things so much easier. What? Like it is such a hassle to pour or scoop the detergent into the washing machine and then (gasp!) have to use a second product in the dryer. What a long way we've come from having to wash clothes at the river against a rock or use one of the old ringer washers. Some of these new convenience products are such a joke and they are so much more expensive than the alternative.
