  • Y R U Motivated to save

I am motivated by the idea of freedom and the choice of when and where to work. I really want to own my own medical clinic and need monies to start. I like the saying "be frugal and free". Debt brings on negative feelings. We think if we cannot spend then life is not fun. As we can see from this site we are wrong, many things can be fun and free. I like the park with my daughter, sitting and combing her hair, tutoring her in math so she can have self-esteem and be successful. I get bored at times, but life is not perfect. Y R U motivated?

I am motivated by the thought that I will control the money, it won't control me. I am getting there, definitely have much more control than I used to. I just basically want the security of knowing my car could break down, any normal emergency could happen, and I'd be prepared for it, and wouldn't have to stress myself out.

      Re: Y R U Motivated to save

Being a middle-aged single woman, I am motivated by the very real possibility that I may always be single, and I want to be sure I can take care of myself financially.

I've been hungry in my lifetime. TRUELY hungry. It's a horrible feeling. The thought of it motivates me to save like a mad woman.

Bluezy, I can relate. I am sorry this happened to you. I have been hungry, too. When my spouse lost his job in 2002 I had a mental illness. I fear poverty. When I was 20 starting out living in my subsidized housing, working as an LPN, paying 30% of my income; when my neighbor was on ADC - she had better furniture and food than me working - I had limited income for food. Of course I was not that knowledgeable and had low self esteem at that young age. I would go down in the middle of the night and eat 2 tablespoons of peanut butter - I was hungry! My husband, I overheard, tell my daughter I was reacting because of this situation when he lost his job. However, God was good - gave me a great opportunity and all is fine now. Thank you for sharing. If anyone is hungry on this site, please tell us, I will not let you go hungry.

I save for my future. I'm single, no rings, no strings, no offspring. The women in my family live very very long lives- into their 90s so in order for me to live a comfortable life-all my life, I have to plan now. I don't want to live on the state when I get older, I want to always take care of me.

I guess I try to save cause I want to be able to travel with my DCs. DS wants to go see all the things in the world we talk about and I don't want him to have to wait till he is all grown up, and honestly he may forget to go like I did!

Course I have to get out of debt first.

I'm motivated to save for a new house. The property market is pretty hot over here so saving for a new house takes some dedication

I have a one-year old daughter and # 2 is due in January. My wife quit her full-time job to raise the kids, so we're looking to save anyway we can...

                        Re: Y R U Motivated to save

I motivated because I want to stay home with my kids. That has been the biggest force pushing us towards our frugal life.

                          Re: Y R U Motivated to save

I want a life where I can do what I want when I want. It may sound selfish...(and it might be) but I want my freedom. I no longer want any debts hanging over my head. I love what I do, however, I want the freedom to walk away if at some point I no longer want to work. If I want to travel, I want the freedom to decide when instead of having to work around others schedules. If I want to attend a function, I don't want to have to ask my boss's permission. Thats my motivation!

                            Re: Y R U Motivated to save

My motivation is peace of mind. I've seen too many folks ruined financially, because they never took the time to think about saving for the future. So many members of my family, live from one paycheck to the next, always one unexpected expense away from defaulting on a car payment etc.

My wife and I are very blessed to both have good jobs, with great benefits, so I want to make a concerted effort to save a good portion of our current income for our future (whatever the future may hold).

                              Re: Y R U Motivated to save

There are two main motivations for me to save. They are retirement and airfare to Canada.
I am a Canadian living in New Zealand. I try and get back to Canada every year and a half. This costs us $2500 per ticket. If the four members of my family go, this costs us about $10,000. So we are always saving for our next trip.
We are saving for retirement as well. I don't want to live like my father does, he is retired and he can afford to do very little. Our retirement scheme is to buy investment rental properties. We have two now. It would be nice to have 10 by the time I retire.
So far we have been able to accomplish this on one wage (approx. $60,000 per year). We are very proud of what we have accomplished. Soon my wife will start back at work as our two children have started school. And then we will be able to save even more for our retirement scheme.
