  • I need a website

Thanks to this website I understand the value of tracking my money, setting financial goals, paying down debt and building savings. My husband understands these things too...but I want to push him a bit.

I want to be able to create some charts that I can use to visually help him understand where our finances are compared to our goals.

We currently pay an extra $100 a month on our mortgage- but in times of 'want' my husband suddenly thinks that we can keep the extra $100 "this month." I want to create a graph chart to help him see how important it is to save the extra $100.

We have some savings accounts designated to save for various goals...once again my husband sometimes thinks we can raid the savings accounts if the need arose. I want to create a line graph so he can see the importance of compounding interest and disciplined savings.

And my husband never thinks we have enough accessible spending money. I want to create a pie chart so he can see how much money we really do have compared to what we spend.

...And maybe it would be fun to create a pie chart showing how much of our money is geared towards different spending categories such as bills, food, entertainment ext.

Hey it's Sunday afternoon and I am suddenly motivated. I don't have microsoft excel. Is there a website where I can create these graphs for free? Does anyone else have visual graphs that they use or is a column like budget the extent of what everyone is doing?

You might try Quicken. You can set up a variety of accounts and I believe it does charts on them. I'm not sure if it will project compound interest though.

I usually go to this website for savings and retirement projections.

I second that. Google docs has an online spreadsheet like Excel. And it is all online. I really like it. And it's Free!

OpenOffice has Calc, which is like Microsoft Office's Excel.

Quicken has many great tools that are already set up for exactly the things you're talking about. You can customize tons of graphs. If you're not willing to drop the $$$ for the "real" version, then give Quicken online a try. It's free & it will categorize spending & create most of the graphs for you as well. There's several other free online finance managers as well, like Mint.com
