  • MagicJack Review

Has anyone used MagicJack and if you have, what are your thoughts? Is it a scam or does it really work. I'm considering getting one, but want to hear others opinions before getting it. Thanks in advance.

I haven't, but from what I've seen, it looks like an overhyped VOIP with a conventional phone adapter. And because it is VOIP, it share the same pros and cons as other VOIP implementations.

However, I believe it also costs a nominal annual fee to hold conventional telephone numbers for you.

For cheap VOIP, I also recommend looking into Skype.

Personally, I use Steam. It's a free software that is designed for gaming in mind, but with it, I am able to chat with friends and family who are also Steam members. Long distance calls, conference calls, caller ID, text messaging, email. Steam does all that, does it well, and does it all for free. As such, I personally don't see the appeal of something like magicjack... but that's just me.

Oh, here's a link to comments from magicjack customers. Apparently, some love it, and others hate it.

      MagicJack

We have friends who have used MagicJack for almost a year and were very pleased, so we took the leap and bought one ourselves. I bought it online at the MagicJack site, not knowing that you could pick it up locally from Walgreens, OfficeMax and other places.

You get 1 year of service for free with your purchase. You are offered a longer term for more money, but we chose just to see how this went.

So far we have been happy with it. You have to dial the area code even for local numbers, but that's not a big deal. We expected long delays, dropped calls, even "ads", but none of that happened.

We gave up our landline about two years ago and had been strictly using our cell phones, but felt we liked the land line better for long conversations - you know, when you call a business and are put on hold.

We take it with us when we travel and plug it into the laptop and have no problems. Hope this helps.
