I know that people are cutting back on traveling, but some of us have saved up and are going places nevertheless. We just spent the weekend in Branson, Mo, and it was a bit sad -- we went to three shows and all three had only half of an audience. Every hotel we drove by said "vacancy" and we figured this was prime family vacation season.

Today I received an "offer" for special room rate for Wynn's hotel in Vegas...this rate was less than what paid when we went to the Mirage in 1990 for our honeymoon.

Anyone else seeing cuts in the travel industry?

I'm hoping people have cut back. We're going to Disney World in August, not our usual time to visit (we usually go in November) and I'm dreading the crowds. I'll be quite happy if business is off significantly.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I grew up on Guam, and their local economy is significantly tourism-based. I've seen some articles from out there recently expressing that the tourism industry has been on shaky ground for months. Add in the 'swine flu' fears among airline passengers, and it only gets worse.

I can definitely imagine that there are some very lucrative deals out there if you go looking for them...shoot, at this point, they're probably looking for you!

I'm secretly hoping the crowds aren't that bad when we go to WDW in July...but it can't be as good as it is in October when we went last time. I think Disney has done a lot to attract guests with good deals.
