Have you ever fallen for a money scam?

I was cleaning out my garage and came across a bunch of walter filters from a MLM company I got suckered into a number of years back. Boy, was that a mistake! It cost me nearly $1000 at a time when I couldn't afford to lose that.

I was wondering if anyone else has fallen for any money scams in the past?

i joined an MLM company cause I wanted the toys at a discount, and was annoyed at my dealer (my mother) not letting me know when new stuff came out and sales were on. I have inventory I need to get rid of, but it was mostly balenced out by some earnings, and some gifts, so I don't think I was that bad in the hole cause of it, course I hate the MLM set up. .

I have a natural scepticism with regards to mlm schemes so have never been sucked into them but I know a few people that have. They know better now.

Probably one of the silliest money errors I made was buying my son a car. The dealership was one of those lots in a so-so area of town. My son wanted a particular car very badly, but it needed work. $200 deposit, and they told us it needed a new clutch. They also told us how much the clutch was, and that it might not be worth putting into the car. Son said he'd look into it. Back we go the next day, son says he'll take the car. Another $1000 from mom, who was already having "challenges" of my own, and he has the car towed. After money has changed hands, car is paid in full, tow truck moving... son says "I wonder how much it'll cost to fix". I totally blew up as he'd already said he'd priced it out. He'd lied. Last time he got any car help from me, and he moved out for months shortly after. Couldn't take the guilt I guess. Couldn't get registered without clutch, sold for $200.

Not yet.

I say that because financial products are getting more and more convoluted, technology is making things easier for the scammer, people seem to be getting more and more devious, and pitches are getting more and more slick.

When I was 15 I fell for that email where you sent $5 to the 5 people on the list, then put your name at the top, and spam it to a bazillion people. My ISP almost kicked me off for the spam I sent out. I didn't even know what the heck spam was when the guy called me. I seriously thought he was talking about the food.

I lost $25 and some pride.

When I first retired and had time to spend on the net I got involved in lots of MLM companies...which while I guess they weren't technically scams, they were a waste of my time and money. I spent a lot of money trying to make money. I made a little from one but overall not as much as I spent.

I once called a number about mystery shopping (something I have done for many years)...turned out it was in Puerto Rico or some place like that and ended up costing me a lot on my phone bill! My dil got caught in this one too!

I got suckered into selling Pampered Chef. I did get some great products for a discount (and I think the products I got were good products). But, I didn't make any money and realized that the market is limited. You don't really have that many repeat customers, there's only so much a person can buy, it doesn't get used up.
