  • Car Maintenance getting more expensive!

Here about a week ago I decided it was about time to change out the spark plugs in my car a Ford Crown Victoria. I've done it before and it is a very simple task, you simply buy a spark plug socket, unscrew the old ones and screw in the new ones with a cost of about $2.50 a plug. However to my surprise due to the way they are making vehicles now you have to copletely disassemble the fuel injection system to get to the spark plugs! Needless to say I choose to take it into the shop and have them changed for me. My first quote was from fire stone for almost $200! I finally found a shop that did it for me for $138.04 and gave me a discount for being a college student.

It definately pays to shop around but I never would have thought a simple thing like spark plugs could be such a major repair of $200!

    Car Maintence

    Hi,
Car maintence is getting very expensive because of the economic crisis and people are becoming poor so they want to find ways to stay rich but they are not the only ones everyone is trying.
    Thank You

I have wondered if the classis shade tree mechanic is gone.

I have heard that since cars became computerized and from
your post built differently it has become more difficult for
the driveway home mechanics to work (plus in some areas
there are the deterring codes against nonworking cars on blocks).

My dad always saved a lot of money and had tons of tools
to do all sorts of engine overhauls and rehauls.

This kept transportation a lot cheaper.

I just had to call out a mechanic who does housecalls and is very reasonably priced and 'honest'. He has more business than he
can handle but he will tell you if it is something he cannot do.

Even so it was $200.00 to get a stuck window working - the motorized part cost way more than the labor. The days of hand powered windows were so much simpler.
