Rush and all the ideological asshats -- both on the Right and on the Left -- are what's wrong with this country. Fine, you don't like Obama (or you didn't like Bush), but wanting him (or Bush) to fail? That's treasonous as far as I'm concerned.

Interesting. What made you change your opinion?Originally posted by sweeps View PostRush and all the ideological asshats -- both on the Right and on the Left -- are what's wrong with this country. This really depends on the definition of success. I could really careless about Bush or Obama, I want America to succeed. Succeed as a free capitalist nation, that is.
My greatest hope for Obama is to turn this ship away from the bankrupt port we are sailing to.

I took the first one to mean "of course Rush doesn't want Obama's policies to get enacted...what's wrong with that?" and the second one to mean "if you don't want Obama's policies (or Bush's previously) to get enacted, you are treasonous."

I see. No, what I meant on the first one "I would be very surprised if Rush supports Obama -- they are practically polar opposites."Originally posted by cptacek View PostI took the first one to mean "of course Rush doesn't want Obama's policies to get enacted...what's wrong with that?" and the second one to mean "if you don't want Obama's policies (or Bush's previously) to get enacted, you are treasonous."
Here's my main point. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with, lobbying against, voting against, or speaking out against a president's policies. You don't have to like him, you don't have to respect him, but it's not right to want him to fail. If he fails, we all fail.
I was pretty vocal in my criticism of Bush, but I never wanted him to not be successful in making our country as good as it could be.

I agree with this assessment. As anti-Bush as I was, I wasn't hoping for the country fail. What I find most interesting is that the conservative talking heads (O'Reilly, Hannity, and Limbaugh in particular) are now espousing the exact same rhetoric that they deemed "treasonous" a mere year and a half ago. Take a quick trip to YouTube and you'll see a particular segment displaying the ire of O'Reilly deeming Bush's critics to be "anti-American." To be clear, those three can believe in what they choose, that's their freedom of opinion, but my problem is with the clear cut hypocrisy we're seeing and they fully deserve to be called out on it. I guess that's what you can expect when such a fundamental change in administration occurs.Originally posted by sweeps View PostI see. Conservatives and liberals alike can be crazy. I've seen it on my blog. I've had crazies on both. Personally I can' listen and get the conservative point of view and actually agree in some cases. BUT people can't wrap their head many times around my liberal (Socialism). It's so hard, that I have been bashed on the head for it.
SO my very left wing point of view can be not accepted as well. Go figure.
