  • My Parents Won't Help Me

I will be moving out of the house where I have been living with my parents for the last 20 years. I agreed to make this move because they said I needed to take more responsibility in my life, but now that I have said I will go, they are refusing to help me with the cost of moving out. I know they have plenty of money and they know I don't have any, so how do I convince them that they should pay for the costs of me leaving.

I'm thinking that my best option is to refuse to leave until they become a bit more generous. It's me that is making the effort to move. Do I have the right to sue them? Cause I think that would teach them a lesson for putting someone out on the street with no money.

All I really want is some money so I can go and live in peace by myself. What would you recommend as the best way to get it?

jeffrey's note: No kidding...this is what I found in my email today

    Are you kidding me?

Your parents want you to take responsibility for yourself, not just move out, and continue to have them pay for you. Obviously you're at least 20 years old, probably haven't been paying rent, and now you cry that you don't have any money? Do you have a job? If not you need to find one quickly.

You want to sue someone because they won't give you a gift?? Give me a break, oh and if you don't I may have to sue you.

What you really need is exactly what your parents are hoping for, to grew up and become a real independent person.

Good for your parents and good luck to you. If you have any questions about how to create, grow, or spend your own money, I'm sure all of us here will be happy to help, I'll certinly be one of the first.

    You better get to packing,

The only help I would give is a harder kick than normal to move you further out the door quicker.

      Ungreatful SOB.

I wish I can see you..My advice will be better given face-to-face. Well since I can't ,this is my own little piece. Start moving as soon as possible if you want anything including money from them again. Show them you can survive without them, then they will want to help. If your'e not working ,get a job. I had to work hard for 4 years with a single help from my parents and they saw how much I put in to make a livuing and contributed to my first car. It's all about saving money and you need to bear that in mind.

        Go borrowing..

You've got to be kidding me. Anyone that thinks like this is never going to make it on their own anyway. Maybe his parents should just let him stay with them.

honestly whether or not your parents are "rich" is really non of your concern , do not threaten to sue them or you will find that you will be written out of the will and the family dog will get it all

the best place to go when you need money is to work, get a job get your own place and you will most likely find your parents more willing to help you

you can then find a spouse have a child and in 20 years have a greater understanding and respect for your parents ;-)

Not exactly the same but I have a friend who complains to this day that her parents "Didn't pay for her college." All her whoas are because her parents didn't pay for her college. (She's in her 40s).

A lot of us didn't have our college paid for. HELLO.

This guy is going to be one of those guys whining no one helped him when he is 60.

Stop whining and get a job. It's really that simple.

                        Ditto.

Jeffrey, I'm really beginning to think you post these questions purely for entertainment value, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Wow this guy is a total loser. My advice would be to get a set of b*lls and grow up. I don't even want to know how old this guy is. The sad reality is that he will never be a useful member of society and will leach/drain taxpayer dollars. Man, I wish lethal potassium injections were legal.

I cannot believe how horrible you guys are treating this poor abused young man. Those ungreatful parents not paying for his move and offering to pay his bills, I'm shocked.

Obviously, you guys are bunch of good for something, highly responsible SAVERS.
