  • How often do you act on saving tips?

I'm wondering how often that you act on the saving tips you find or hear about. I read a lot of great tips, but then I find I don't act upon them. Do you think this is a common thing? For every tip you hear, how many do you actually take the time to do? I probably don't do more than one in 20 or so which means I'm not saving nearly as much as I should be.

When I spot a savings tip that applies to my circumstance, I seize the opportunity and save the money left over in cash- that way I can physically see the savings and further encourage myself to save more. Lately I've allowed school and other things sway me off the frugal path a bit- but hey, I'm Baaack!

I follow as many as I can, but it is hard to go from 60 to 0 in a day, so a lot do slip by, but some of the standard ones tend to come back all the time. And some just don't fit my life, yet.

t took me over a month to finnally get all my computers on outlet strips to be unplugged when not in use, but I am finally there. I had the idea in the back on my mind percolating for awhile . I have a few others still working on.

Re: How often do you act on saving tips?

I find that I go in a really big circle, re-reading frugal books, websites, etc. for tips. I usually focus on one or two that apply to my life at the time, and by the time I re-read it, circumstances have changed and I'll focus on a different one or two. Don't feel bad about not implementing everything all at once. First of all, you can't, second, you need time to adjust and incorporate each change so it doesn't seem like such a big sacrifice. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!

Some I take some I simply pass on. It is what works for me. I don't do coupons but I know how to shop and save a lot of money.

Re: How often do you act on saving tips?

I try to act on as many as I can, but I do look at them and decide if they are worth the effort that needs to be put into them. I also value my time so if something is very time consuming with only a slight savings reward, I won't do it.

I do the same thing that mjrube94 does, I reread the tips on various websites and implement the tips when I can. Some tips I have gotten off the web I have been doing for years. Others I am just starting to do. But I love all the tips and when I get a good one I keep it and may pass it on to someone else.

I use the ones that pertain to me and I am always looking for more to slip in.

I try to incorporate all the ones that I can, but I do get lazy at times. I know I could do better.

I try everything just once. I am very adventuous.

Re: How often do you act on saving tips?

If the tip is truly a money saving tip, I use it. Not all tips are money saving. Spending money to save money is just an excuse to spend money. You do not NEED to eat out unless you are on a journey. You do not need to do crafts unless you sell them, otherwise you are wasting your money. See not all tips are valid. Essentially, laziness costs a lot of money, if you have to rationalize you don't NEED it. Stick with the tried and true tips. And, remember bias when you read a tip. Use it over and over again, use what you have on hand, and don't buy anything that is not needed: Ben Franklin "pride is a s loud as a beggar and want. when you have bought one fine thing you must buy 10 more - tis easier to suppress the 1st desire than to satisy all that follow it".

I agree 100% pennywise. I do weigh each tip I come across against how it fits in with my lifestyle. If it cost me money in the shortterm to save money in the long term I'm not crazy about it. If it doesn't make me money, not interested in it etc.

If they seem like something I can without causing too much inconvenience to my life, I will act on them. Others I simply won't do...there are something that are just not worth it to me to save a small amount of money.

As often as possible here! I love to read, so sitting here reading past posts, trying to catch up to all of you advanced savers.........I'm bound to pick up some hints. Obviously, not all will fit me, my household or my situations at this time......hopefully, they will all get "banked" in my memory storehouse to pull out if things change here.

I did like the idea of focusing on one area of saving each month.......that way, I will see some success instead of always wishing I could be doing more. There is so much here, I would have to quit work to implement everything I think!

I'm already pondering what to focus on for March!!
