It takes a lot of work and effort, but it is certainly something that anyone can do if they want. It's one of those things where you have to put in a lot of front end work with no pay that can pay off a couple of years down the line (most people quit long before this). Be aware that it is a lot more than just writing. You also need to seek adverting and figure out how to get people to come to your blog which can mean spending more time on these things than actually writing blog posts. Probabaly the best known blog for learning how to make money blogging is ProBlogger

I would love to do this too! But without all of Jeffries 'work' associated with it. Anybody need a 'stand in' blogger, when you just cant think of something to write about, or go on vacation but still need to keep the content fresh~ give me a hollar!

You can either setup your own or use one of the free sites such as wordpress. It really depends on what you're comfortable with.

Some of the freelance sites might be worth trying, then you can write content without worrying about the technical side of having a blog. As Jeffrey said, starting up a blog takes a lot of work, especially in promoting it.

I thought that the best way to cash in on the Internet was to successfully sell a product via a website. IMHO a blog is best used for (what I thought was) it's original purpose: To make a statement or share some facet about yourself with others.

Now if your blog happens to becomes popular, you can make money with it, say, via Adsense, but I think that the focus of a blog should be self-expression.

Personally, I have a blog (which BTW is neither of my signatures) which I doubt will ever see the light of day in terms of popularity or PR, but I feel good writing posts and enjoy the feeling of creating something that reflects my personal beliefs and ideals.

I have found the best way to make money blogging is to have a niche. Pick a topic that you are passionate about and write about it often. Some people make money writing about their daily life but they are few and far between.

The one's that seem to do the best are the one's that are informative (an easily googled).

In addition, you can add google adsense to your site. The ads will be pertinent to the topic you are writing about (that is the great thing about adsense)!

I use blogspot.com to host my blog. They are free but have a pretty simplistic template/set-up. They have 2-column templates. If you have some html experience though you can change it to 3-column.

I changed my to 3-column, added a horizontal sidebar across the top, and included some products in the side-bar for sale with "buy now" button from Paypal. I love that I can sell items without having to pay a fee to Etsy or Ebay.

Sorry, I am going on and on. But the short answer it you can make money blogging with blogspot.com overtime and a lot of hard work.

Smorty is legitimate, but the blog authors tend to be horrible. Also, most pay-to-blog websites require that you have an existing blog before you start getting paid (why would they pay you to blog when no one is going to read it?).

I've made a little money blogging. What was said previously about having a niche is true. You want something very specific that hasn't been done to death. That way the search engines find you. Most of your earnings will come from google Adsense, and you will need to promote your blog. It is slow in the beginning. I use blogger.com

You can also earn by paid posting to forums. This won't earn you much money. I got burned out on it, but was earning a few dollars an hour when I was doing it.

I just started blogging about personal finance and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. It's a topic I never quite get sick of. But even after a few weeks, it can get exhausting; it's not like you make any money at the beginning. And if you're not passionate about the subject, you'll burn out quickly. I guarantee it.

This blogging-for-profit thing has crossed my mind plenty of times. I just don't think that anything I could write would be incredibly original, aren't there numerous people all saying the same thing no matter what the topic?

I know a site that might be worth trying to sort of test yourself against other 'bloggers'... I think it's rafterjumpon.com... You can join free and they permit 2 articles, you can choose 3 (I think) different topics to "tag" yourself with. You just join by submitting your 2 articles and others view your page and give you a thumbs-up if they enjoyed reading it. If you don't think you're getting enough positive feedback for your articles you can write a couple more and 're-apply' to post them and get rid of your previous articles.

I personally don't think this particular site is going anywhere fast, but you could use it to experiment with what is going to get you more attention in comparison to other people with the same goal in mind.

You would think that with all the personal finance writing I do, one of the personal finance blogs would be the most profitable, but the truth is that our most profitable blog is one on Hello Kitty (don't even ask...) -- what it does show is that even niche topics can make money. I can't emphasize enough that it does take a lot of work and dedication, but if I can do it, anyone really can.
